Thx for the replies guys.
For clarification, I was not with the flow of traffic, Jules has it right, I was on the opposing side. I was not on the street though but on the sidewalk and on the crosswalk is where she hit me. I usually stop and predict people that are not going to stop but this lady fully stopped before the crosswalk and went without looking. In Canada you are required as a driver especially when making right turns to look back and check your blind spot for bikes etc. This was not some suburban place, it's a big intersection in a busy city with tons of people, cyclists etc. I am lucky to be alive. It could have been a kid riding out with his friends or anyone for that matter crossing from that sidewalk.
Some of the comments the lady and I exchanged before cops got there:
Her: Do you need money for a cab home?
Her: Do you think you can ride home (meanwhile my bike looks like a pretzel and my shoulder is owned)
Her: How much did your bike cost? Me: 500 $ Her: Nooooooooooo I don't think it is that much.
Me: Im calling the police (pulling out cell)
Her: No no...(too late sirens someone already called)
My main concern right now is to heal up nicely, I really want to be able to continue lifting weights a year from now. As for going out while I am here healing, I don't want to do any of the sort, I would rather be put out in a comma for 2 months and wake up healed. I feel like total garbage reliving the moment and worrying about how its all going to turn out. I also feel depressed, because Ive been working out 5 days a week for the past 3 years and when that exercise stops I feel like I in slob mode, gaining weight etc...ugh.
Bozono: I would never ride downtown, bathurst and that whole annex area is doomsday for bikers. I go to college downtown also and I see someone on a bike getting owned or almost getting mashed every day.
From now on: Bike, into car, to the park, any intersections or possible places of danger, Iam walking. The worst thing too, I cant even play games, I had Q4 and FEAR for 2 days then I get owned.![]()
As a fellow cyclist I'm glad you weren't killed and wish you a speedy recovery but in the future I think you'd be safer if you rode on the street with the flow of traffic instead of on the sidewalk or against the flow of traffic. Yeah, she should have looked right before going but you should have realized that she wasn't watching you and not been in front of her. Actually, you really should have been on the other side of the road going with the flow of traffic.
