look people, I was no where near the cop. I moved over as far as I could without pulling into the left lane. there was faster moving traffic in the left lane. in order to move over I would have had to either speed up or cut someone off. I did slow down. I was going under the speed limit. and he did not clock me. he had no idea how fast I was going. he just wanted to give me a ticket. it was the reason he and his buddies were all hanging around an area on the highway where the speed was reduced.

thats bullsh!t and I'll tell ya why.....At no time have I ever driven on a multilane road and there were a flock of cop lights ahead did no cars slow down. Usually every car slows down regardless of what side of the roadway the cop lights are on..... So, you saying that the left lane was travling faster than you could get up to speed in order to change lanes is absolute sh1t.

I was going to say the same thing. Throw on your blinker and start moving over. The guy behind you will know exactly why you need to move over and will slow down to let you in.

In Michigan it is required you move over for any "authorized emergency vehicle." This includes police, fire, ambulances and wreckers. Even if they didn't have this law it is just common sense to move over.

I've had to change a drivers side tire before on the side of a busy highway and I was uncomfortable doing that. Traffic was moving at 70+ MPH and it felt like I was only inches away with all of the wind rushing.

Because of people like you, a friend of mine is without a father.

He was pulled over a fair amount onto the side of the road, trying to change a tire on the passenger side, when his car proceeded to get creamed, sending him flying into the woods and killing him.

It's common courtesy and sense to move over when there is somebody on the shoulder.

1- Why waste valuable gas to listen to music

2- That just totally sucks for you. Hopefully you will get a decent judge. Was there someone in the left lane prohibiting you from moving over? Could always say there was....

3- Let the judge know exactly how rude the officer was. Just so they have it on record. You might not be the only one complaining about how you were talked to / reprimanded.

Sucks that the cop was a powertripping asswipe though.

Normally I would, however there were people in the left lane passing me at about 75mph. I was doing 55. I could be wrong but I don't think there was room for me to change lanes.

WTF???!!! What an asshole. You should edit that in your OP. Fight it and tell the judge that it was unsafe to move over. What utter bullsh!t :disgust:

You have obviously never driven in the Miami metro area. When you put your blinker on people will speed up to cut you off. Yes, they'll do it even if there are cops present.

sorry they are not as aggressive as NYC drivers. Even NYC drivers slow down for cop lights. This story is BS

How the fvck do you know that? If he lives in or around tampa, orlando, or miami, then I would not be surprised if people sped past flashing cop lights. I've seen it happen. Florida drivers in big cities are complete idiots/assholes.

Fight it. Tell the judge that because of traffic you felt you couldn't safely move into the next lane and that you did slow down and were going less than the posted speed limit when passing by the cop.

 have you ever driven in miami? I've seen this happen. plus, he was initially driving under the speed limit, and he slowed down when he saw the cops. That means that they could have been going ~70 mph in a 60mph zone, i.e. within the 10 mph buffer given by cops.

Tell the judge that there was a car in the other lane. I doubt he will remember, and there is a chance he will falter.

You can also call and find out what the cops schedule is - usually not too hard, act like a family member. Put the trial off until one of his days off. The odds of the cops showing up are slim. Just paint doubt.

either way he is a poor driver and broke the law. If you see cop lights coming ahead you have ample time to get up to speed to change lanes. Its not that hard a maneuvre

This was at night though, odds are the roads were not that congested. He is just a bad driver.

All hick states that need to pass BS laws to generate revenue. Thankfully I don't live in any of them, most states in the Boston - DC megalopolis have half a brain. Now if we could just get them to get rid of the stupid CLICK IT OR TICKET crap, the world would be a much better place.

Next, the second amendment to this law will be the GET OUT OF YOUR CAR Act. "When pulled over, immediately get out of your car and put your hands on the hood and face the police officer." Why have a law like this? It's to protect the officers, they'll say. Sht happens, cops get capped at a routine stop every month. It's no different than some schmuck high on PCP that plows into a cop on the side of the road. Give an inch, they'll take a mile. Soon they'll have us walking through metal detectors at toll booths. Ridiculous.

i'm too tired to read the whole thread, but it sounds like they are trying to really enforce this law by giving a lot of tickets on it in order to get the word out, which is prettydumb, why not just use media?

I don't get what's so bad about this law? From what I read, it seems that they require you to move over to a lane not adjacent to where the cop has someone pulled over. It seems like this would help keep the cop safe from traffic. Unless I read it wrong.

Hey moron, even if there was a car next to him, he'd have to slow down to 20 MPH below the speed limit, so give it up.

I'd feel sorry for the OP if it weren't for his attitude. It would be nice if they at least publicized something like this when the law was passed. I'm sure it was (at least by the media), but to what extent I have no idea. It's common courtesy though, and I do it even though my state does not have that law (ok, I don't slow down to 5 mph if I pass a cop in a 25 mph zone).

What's worse is the people who don't yield to emergency vehicles.
