So I get back from a meeting and there is a mac mini sitting on my desk ...

lol I'm seriously thinking about installing dual OS on it, and using it as a "laptop" per se, in the fact that I could bring it anywhere and hook it to anyone's monitor.

That's what I'd do, if I didn't have my laptop.

XP runs surprisingly well on it, too.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it.

Hah okay awesome!

I was kind of mad i didn't bring it home over the weekend though! I mean I didn't even hook it up at work so it wouldn't have been a problem or anything. I coulda done all this over the weekend :(

So it installs and runs easily? Or do you have to do a trick on it?

Well, you can't just pop in an XP disk and go. Basically, you make a special XP install disk using SP2 and a patch. Then, you change the EFI so it becomes a OS X / XP bootloader, then repartition, install OS X, install XP, and you're basically good to go.

It took me a few hours to go through the whole process because I made sure to follow everything EXACTLY (which you should do) but I ended up having no major problems.

http://onmac.net is the main site for it.

All in all it's a pretty easy process, if you follow the directions.

Hell, I ended up liking my Mini so much I'm planning on selling it and buying a MacBook Pro.

:)

No-one else noticed that shorty didn't actually address the point about the actual technical differences of the two processors and just went straight into e-thug mode?

Intel Centrino Duo @ 2.16ghz

I win.
how is 256 millibits of RAM winning ?

Nit-pickin' mofos!

I still win, regardless

you win on the sole fact that mine is a mac. i've been developing on a mac for 18 months now and i still do not like stupid osx.

also for the record, i have a windows machine too. it's just not a beast since i'm primarily mac developer. our software is cross platform.

In all reality, we both win. New/better/faster stuff FTW :D:beer:

Ummmmm, thats because I didnt good sir.
Its all a little discombobulated right now, but if you roll back and read it was SLCentral who started the pissing contest. Others joined in eventually.
I made a post about the specs of a system and some folks didnt like my viewpoint. Its unfortunate they couldnt be polite in the counter arguments. By the time the intelligent technical discussion got started we were all acting like jerks to each other. This would have been better in General Hardware or CPU.

For some reason when you start the weiner slapping you're a cool mamma jamma.
If you defend against the weiner slapping you're a little bitch. If you'll also notice I havent called anybody a dumbass or fvckhead or dickhole. That was the OTHER guys. I really dont think I'm the e-thug here my good man.

Very sorry it turned so bad. But I was one of the more pleasant posters here today.

Some would say that with a decent knowledge of hardware specs, anyone would see that a Core Duo 1.66GHz and 2GB of RAM is a good match. But I'm just playing devil's advocate

Should I redress the balance and call you a dumbass/fvckhead/dickhole? :D

What what, tally ho, pip pip and all that rubbish.

I think the point is you said you made a "supported" technical statement, yet your back up was that you worked for the Navy and have been a "home and office" IT for years.

So the OP never said what the computer was there for? Testing it for the company or something?
