So I found a photoshopped pic on the US Air force site.

Actually I found through Wikipedia. Here's the pic. As you can probably see, the baby pic on the screen looks to be photshopped on there. And a horrible job at that. Apparently they gave a description (quoting Wikipedia):

"That's my baby
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM -- Tech. Sgt. Troy Goodman inspects the newest member of his family via webcam August 12. Sergeant Goodman was able to watch the live birth over the Internet. He is the noncommissioned officer in charge of munitions inspections for the 40th Expeditionary Munitions Flight."

I originally found it from Wikipedia.

So what do you think? Is this horribly unethical or does the fact that it isnt really a high profile picture make it justifiable?

If they would have lowered the contrast and increased the brightness of the screen, I probably wouldn't have taken note of it and suspected anything.

Well, actually, I probably would have... because no webcam program has that good of resolution and is full screen. :)

And if you look closely the baby pic doesnt even fit the screen correctly. It goes over the side :).

also to my knowledge lcds dont have scan lines when you take pictures of them, do they? and that scan line looks terrible.

edit: oop novasatori beat me to it

and in the background it says no webcams email or chatting which is also funny.

you never know though, could be a real story/situation/picture and they made up a 'better' pic to depict it or somehting. made the baby more visible? i woudnt really have a problem with that, i guess. actually i dont care either way. funny though

I feel the same way. I cant be bothered to even reported to Wikipedia or complain about to the site's administrators.

This is what I thought. Perhaps the resolution was so bad that the Airforce knew they'd get chewed out so they took an actual picture of the baby and popped it in there.

LOL reminds me of pictures of cell phone screens in the Best Buy/Circuit City ad's where the picture looks better than a damn Plasma TV. If that's not a photochop job, I am really speechless how to explain it. I bet the original picture is him looking at some weird porn (2 girls?) they were like "WTF!" and decided to change it into a positive and make it a nice story about a dude watching his baby be born.

sadfffff might be right, it might be a "not actual picture" simulation

If you look at the scan line, you can see it actually goes onto the frame of the lcd (on the left hand side).

I love the "no email capability will be loaded to the computers" posted on the wall. HA.

He might have been actually looking at his baby on the screen, but I'm guessing in the original picture you couldn't see the baby thus didn't give people the "awwww" factor that they were looking for. So they took a picture, slapped it up, and called it good enough for propaganda.

you should change your title.

you make it like the Air Force is trying to hide something yet you found the pic on Wikipedia...

The picture is hosted on the Air Force site, and part of their media collection. The OP found it through wikipedia, but that is irrelevant.

Thanks a lot. Now I wont be able to sleep at night.

I like the alkemyst's theory, about them trying to convince us of their incompetence. Paradoxically, they are doing a great job.
In the not too distant future, I see "Shock and Awe" coming to your neighborhood. :p
