So, I cooked a locally raised, organic chicken tonight...

Best Oranges I ever ate were from California, same with Lemons, Apples & Grapes. And I've had every kind of Apple you could imagine. The Cheese from out here's awesome too.

California produce & Cheese >>>>>>> it's not even close.

I have a lemon tree that gives lemons year round. Gives me lemons the size of grapefruits.
 
The gentically monsterfied food from California is artificial and tasteless. The ground is California is desert yet they are somehow able to grow strawberries and peaches from it. Strawberries and peaches require rich, black soil. Such soil is nowhere to be found in California. Instead you get "white" tasteless peaches. The strawberries from Watsonville, California are too large, without taste, and watered with artificial sweetener mixed in.

Unfortunately, California food is replacing all the quality food from the rest of the country. I am unable to find good quality strawberries anymore and tasty deep golden Georgia peaches are not sold in this area anymore. I am lucky when I can find fruit from Michigan. I curse California everytime I go grocery shopping and try to find good fruit.

California is great only in its own mind. Mexican avocados are far better than California avocados. California wine is bitter and acidic. The ground in California is not suitable for growing any kind of food product. The genetic monsterfication and artificial sweetening just make it worse.

California as a dairy capital? Come on now. I have lived my whole life close to Wisconsin and am lucky to know and enjoy the true taste of milk.

California produces most of the country's garlic, artichokes, and asparagus. Why? Because the CA climate and soil are the best in the country for it. The garlic comes from Gilroy, the artichokes from Watsonville, the asparagus from Stockton/Delta. California wines are internationally recognized as the best in the US. Believe me, it kills foreign wine snobs to admit it but they do. Have you ever stopped on the side of the road in CA and bought strawberries, oranges, etc? They're some of the best you'll ever taste. From your posts it's pretty clear that you aren't close to CA. You get the shit produce that Californians, Nevadans, and Oregonians don't want. It's picked underripe and softens in transit or exposed to things like ethylene to redden tomatoes. Just because the crap you get is horrible don't falsely assume that the produce is bad; it's your own damn fault for living so far away from good food.

I have roasted free range chickens and they were fantastic. Almost no fat and very tasty. They were huge with an average weight around 7 lbs.

There's only two things you can learn from being in the Bay Area, how to be gay or how to be an eco nut.

worked in SF, lived in north bay, or east bay...

eco nut is by far the best i learned... and dear god have i fell for it...

let's take this to the argument that i believe we as humans are no different than the diseases we try to destroy in our own body... but we dont see ourselves as that... we are no different; but we have not yet discovered how to go from "cell to cell" to destroy them as we progress...

Assumption has absolutely nothing to do with it. I've roasted many Foster Farms chickens and this is just what I've noticed. Much of the meat on the FF chicken is simply unsuitable for consumption...I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. I've saved meat off these birds and most of it is just too disgusting for me to even eat so I end up throwing it away. These are whole chickens I purchased off the shelf at my local supermarket.

As I was cleaning the meat off this bird I noticed there is much less fat and it is so much less greasy than the commercially grown hormone fed birds. Scoff all you want but this is fact.

I purchased this bird at Henry's Market which is just slightly farther away from me than 2 Ralph's, 1 Vons and 1 Albertsons supermarkets. And for the record Henry's also sell Foster Farms whole chickens and chicken breasts...which I will no longer buy.

Commercially grown chickens do not contain hormones, USDA law forbids any hormones in chicken feed. That being said it's a shame how most are raised, jammed into pens so tight and conditions so deplorable the birds start to peck the crap out of one another so antibiotics are commonly used. Years ago most chickens were "free range" and you never heard of salmonella contamination..

I skip the organic stuff....

I go to chinatown and just to go the place that kills chickens right there. It's better than any chicken you get at a supermarket. For the longest time, the markets in Chinatown used to sell the chickens from these local shops, but they have since jacked up the prices.

Yes, it's common but with the condition the birds are kept in (they live their entire lives standing in their own poop or getting pooped on from nearby birds) means large amounts of the bacteria are present when they arrive for processing making contamination much more likely to occur..
