So, I broke down and bought a rice cooker.

Then do you not get bread, pasta, or potatoes either?

I think you misunderstand what I said. I do not understand why it has become so popular in recent years, that's all. I'm aware that people in other countries have been eating rice for ages, but in America it seems to be a pretty trendy thing.

April Fools?

Dude, you're no fun. :colbert:

I should be clever enough come up with the next useless things hotly debated by ATOT.

So far we had:

Diesel jeans
tipping
fvcking rice cookers

Maybe a coffee thread + how Keurig is amazing? That'll get the elitist nerds foam at the mouth.

What did rice become a 'pretty trendy thing' in US lately?

Nearly a third of whole US population is non-white. And today's demographics, more of them are mixed.

They've all been eating rice all along- Mexicans, entire Latin America, East Asians, Southeast Asians, Middle-easterns, Indians, and so on.

It's not some up-and-coming new trend. Everyone including whites all eat rice one form or the other.

I think America just wasn't introduced to it until more asian immigrants integrated into the country.

I don't feel like it is really that 'trendy', but more that it just has started to be considered a viable carb option next to bread, pasta, and potatoes. I've eaten it all my life though, so I haven't really noticed any difference.

You are young and therefore quick-tempered. Calm thyself.

what the fuck is this man, in the 80's we had "rice a roni" commercials all day every day. The san francisco treat. rice should not be a new commodity.

Lot of young people here. I bet many don't even realize that rice is a crop in the US.

I guess I'll escalate things...

I just have to say that people who use rice cookers are lazy slobs who prefer a bad tasting staple that should have been replaced by bread long ago.

wheat > * > rice

And if you're going to eat your inferior grain, use a fucking pot

There's more than a handful of ATOT'ers with 3 figure rice cookers.

I would rephrase that into "Most of the ATOTers with rice cookers have 3 figure rice cookers."

I really don't get why people are so hang up on the price of a rice cooker. A good pan cost the same yet the rice cooker will get used daily, way more than the pan, if you are Asian.

Now that's just a silly subjective statement.

I grew up on rice. Rye tastes 'funny'- has an off-taste.

A nice hot bowl of brown rice is moist, chewy, nutty and amazing. And it warms up your whole soul as a part of a hot meal. Bread is mostly consumed cold.

You grew up eating bread.

All this talk has me missing rice and bread. Im on a pasta overload here in Italy. Before you say Italian bread, all their bread sucks except for the one they use for pizza.

There's plenty of good bread in italy. Also, there is tons of good, cheap cheese to on top of it :colbert:
