Nope. If doom3 can't run on my 9600pro and XP2100+, no big deal. HL2 is the ticket for me.

Im going to wait for HL2 to come out then decide which upgrade path to take. Right now the ATI cards are lagging behind nVidia in benchmarks, but I want to see if that trend continues with HL2 and if driver updates will fix some of the problems. I prefer ATI to nVidia.

HL2 is a team-based multiplayer game, right? I've never seen a Counter Strike 1v1 tournament. All CS tourneys I've seen are 4v4 or 5v5. Personally I like 1v1 much better for playing and spectating.
