So how many others are buying new hardware for Doom 3?

I'm upgrading my ti4200 to a Radeon 9800 Pro in hopes that I can get playable at 1200x1600 (the native res of my monitor). Also, the fact that Best Buy has them for $179 after rebate and BEFORE a $10 coupon just makes it too good to resist.

I am.

But I'm not going to run it @ 1600x1200, probably a little lower for more frames. 1600 is just overkill and people need to stop thinking you HAVE to run it at the highest possible res for a good gaming experience.

I've been holding off upgrading until Doom3/HL2 came out. I think now (or maybe a month down the road) is a perfect time for an upgrade. It looks like today's high end systems will run doom3 perfectly, meaning they should also be capable of running new games for the next 1-2+ years. I think i'm going to wait a bit longer for Video card price drops and finally upgrade!

Sh!tty thing for me is that I have absoultely no parts that can be recycled from my current computer, too out of date, so I have to build from scratch.

Me!
9800pro probably will have a hard time handle 1600x1200 at medium image quality. You may have to play at 1024x768.

If it's REALLY bad, I MAY upgrade my Radeon9600 pro, but I'm going to wait and see.

Im getting an athlon64, but that wasn't for doom.

I'm waiting a bit then I'll be upgrading to a 6800GT or U. Hopefully the bubble will burst soon on the price premiums retailers are charging right now.

2400+ with DDR3200 that can be easily overclocked (I've gotten it to 3400+ before @ DDR3500 stable before), with a 9800Pro (9800np softmod).

I'm all set :D
And my comp is a year old, and still schweet. I  it.

I recently bought a 6800GT but not just for doom. I want to max out the games I have now, such as far cry

I would have gone this route but I missed the insane buy.com deal :( In doom3, the 6xxx series absolutly trounces the R4xx series too, but the DVI issue makes me wary.
