The fact it happens across the board regardless of browser does make me think it has nothing to do with the OS/browser.

While not the exact same issue I've had an instance in the past where a router was just acting totally stupid on just one thing, nothing worked to fix it aside from a hard reset of the router and reconfig. That worked for a few months, then the router just died later.

If it is all the browsers, I'm going to guess the router could be acting up...I have a hard time believing Firefox and Chrome, which use a different renderer than IE/Edge (which is Trident iirc?) would have the same problem.
Don't know. There is no problem with the router because I use it everyday, and have been for past six or seven years, and there was not a single problem with Windows 7 anyway. The problem started with Windows 8, and I never thought that the problem would occur on 10, but here it is.

I will ask about this in Netgear forum, see if they can say anything or not.

Boot a different OS and try from that. It shouldn't take you long to set up a Linux USB boot stick, if you have any spare USB flash drives.

right now I'm feeling like 8.1 is more like 7 than 10 is, I mean they seem to have more integration with your online account, and more use of the "new UI" stuff with 10, like for changing settings, windows update and stuff, can't say I really like it, but other than that it's been running smoothly on my test PC.

Have you tried power cycling the router. Just pull the power, wait 30 seconds and power back up. I had an old router that the interface would act up like you're seeing after being up for a few months. Ended up being a sign the router was going out. All of the connectivity and everything worked great except the ability to log into the web interface.

Pull the power cord from the router itself? Or just turning off the board switch would do? If it's the latter then I do turn off my router every day for about 2-3 hours.

How dumb is the update section really? It keeps downloading the damn graphic driver while that was the first thing I installed after installing 10! Jeez! Is downloading the driver from Nvidia's website a cursed thing or what? Besides you can't cancel an ongoing update! ROFL!

So far haven't played any games, but I absolutely don't like this 10 update, if it can be called an update that is, half baked, unfinished stuff.

PS: By the way, how do you enter My computer section with keyboard? Win+E doesn't work, it goes into the File Explorer section, which lets me clicking further on the This PC option. Waste of time...!

Quite often, the manufacturer's video driver is newer than the WHQL-certified driver they're pushing through Windows Update, but Windows Update wants you on a WHQL-certified driver. Ignore it.

Ignore what? What's WHQL driver anyway? I downloaded the non beta driver from Nvidia's website, 353.54 is the version no. I think. If Windows update is too intelligent to not understand that whether I have the graphic's driver installed or not then no comments. Also there is no way to cancel the update, it just goes on without even asking for my permission. I have tunred off automatic updates and enabled that other scheduled option, but so what, it still downloads the update all the same! On 7 it would first show me that these updates are available and I could choose whether I want to download them or not, but here no option. I am an idiot, and I understand things simply, so these too much intelligent stuffs are hard for me to understand.

Lots of Nvidia users have been complaining about Windows Update forcing drivers on them constantly. It's only going to get worse until MS wises up and gives people the option to pass on non-MS updates (at least).

Yeah no wonder! Just few minutes back it happened again, my download got stopped, I understood Windows Update is doing something, and it was the damn GPU driver again! Jeez this dumb lots are consistent! Anyway, just out of irritation I actually clicked on the Install option, and nothing happened!

PS: I was searching more about that router GUI page not opening and found someone mentioned to download a 2007 version of Portable Firefox, and guess what, the page is actually opening! I still don't understand where the problem is lying though....

Anyone got Win 8.1 and W10 RTM 10240 on dual boot to give gaming performance comparison ? Interested to see how the latest build fairs in comparison to W8.1.

By default, allows all your contacts access to all WiFi networks you have ever connected to.
http://reviews.gizmodo.com/why-the-hell-is-windows-10-sharing-my-wi-fi-passwords-1719900675

And PC world proves itself to be a better place for tech news than Gizmodo (not that we should have ever doubted that...Gizmodo is fail.)

Windows 10's Wi-Fi Sense feature shares your Wi-Fi network—but only if you tell it to

...The second major problem is that if you use Windows 10’s “Express” settings during installation, Wi-Fi Sense is enabled by default. It’s important to note that when you add a new Wi-Fi network in Windows 10, it asks if you want to share that network. Gizmodo claims that if you upgrade to Windows 10 from a previous installation (which helpfully saves all of your old Wi-Fi network passwords), Wi-Fi Sense sharing is enabled by default for all of those networks. I reached out to Microsoft to confirm, and they state the opposite; several commenters on Gizmodo also state that their saved networks were not automatically shared.

Yeah, i'm one of them. Going back to Win 7....These forced updates are the worst. Maybe if MS wises up I might try again 6 months from now.

Are you aware that there is a way to have Windows not automatically download new drivers? Have you set that and still be served bad drivers?

Don't bother let them stick to windows 7.

This is the whole OMG I'm not using windows 7 i'm sticking to vista, or OMG I'm sticking to windows xp vista sucks rinse repeat and recycle.

I'm looking forward to doing the upgrade install tomorrow to see how it plays out on my machine. I will do a drive image with acronis incase I need to fall back for whatever reason. I've been happy with the RTM build in my VM so far.

My plan is to let the upgrade happen, get the full retail key (I'm using a Win8.1 key from MSDN that will upgrade - it'll full retail) and then use the new Win10 key to do a fresh install of Win10. From what I've used of Win10 so far, it's not 100% what I want, but it is an improvement beyond what I have.

http://www.pcgamer.com/windows-10-wifi-sense-password/

I had no hesitation to let my guests on my home WiFi before. I gave them the WiFi password (which I don't use for anything else) and they can do AirPlay to the Apple TV, print to the printer, or do whatever.

Now, it will work differently.

Friend: "What's your WiFi password?"

Me: "It's...wait. Are you running Windows 10 or newer?"

Friend: "Yeah."

Me: "Damn. Could you make sure the WiFi Sense feature is disabled?"

Friend: "The what feature?"

Me: "Never mind. I can't let you on my WiFi. It might let all your Facebook friends (including your insane sister) on my WiFi."

This is going to suck.

Maybe it doesn't let my guest's friends use my printer and AirPlay stream to Apple TV, I don't know. I'm concerned they can do illegal things online that get traced back to me. I don't want that.

Is windows 10 pro downloadable at midnight tonight? Amazon shows it's available July 30th at midnight (not 29th). Want to do a fresh install for my gaming rig.

IIRC, you can name your network something like "opt out" and it won't be included. Personally, I won't share my network, and may just rename it to the opt out SSID. The real problem I think will be the people you already gave your password to - when they upgrade, they will be able to go into their list of networks and share it without your permission. There needs to be a way to register yourself as the owner of a network such that YOU can control who shares it...

If you want to do an upgrade from Win7/8.1 to Win10 that is a fresh install, you need to do an in place install, get the product key and then you can download an ISO to do a clean install, I think?

I guess Microsoft is hoping that they never had to ask you for the password thanks to WiFi Sense and that it will never go beyond 1 degree of separation, but that's not going to happen unless Microsoft becomes dominant in most device categories (tablets, phones, game consoles, etc) or somehow convinces the competition to support their WiFi Sense service.

I'm mostly concerned with Windows 10 compatibility with games. Does it play games several years old just fine, or with minor tweaks? They claim programs that work on Windows 7 will work just fine on Windows 10, is that true for the most part? I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.

Is there anything as dumb as the UAC with Vista that was enabled by default? Is there a run down on all the dumbest stuff about Windows 10 that a lot of people have issues with that need to be disabled the first time I log in? Like Vista UAC? The last thing I need is Windows 10 adversely effecting my extreme bipolarity.

I've found nothing that's obtrusive - nothing glaring so far. I also haven't had driver problems.

As for compatibility, I've not used my system for gaming, but I've seen nothing that would cause me to worry about compatibility. It looks like everything runs just fine - the ONLY problem I've had has been the CMedia drivers for my Xonar sound card not working correctly (the UNI drivers might now work?)
