If you want to do an upgrade from Win7/8.1 to Win10 that is a fresh install, you need to do an in place install, get the product key and then you can download an ISO to do a clean install, I think?

I actually just want to do a fresh install for a new build. Is it going to be available for download/purchase at midnight tonight? I see everyone else is getting their downloads working for upgrades.

thanks!

No clue on that. I was referring specifically to upgrades, which are free. No clue about the purchase channels. Maybe look at the online Microsoft store?

This can I get it at midnight euphoria reminds me of when windows 98 was released and computer city was open at midnight with food and prizes. I of course have to admit that I was there to get my reserved copy of it.

Interestingly, Amazon lists Windows X Pro as available for download on July 30th at midnight. Not that I'm impatient, but strange it's a 1 day delay.

It was pretty hard to get people to give up vista. Probably the best OS to come out in the past 20 years...

On most builds that people like us on this site would use we didn't have as much issues as the general public that was running it on OEM machines with 1GB of ram!

I enjoyed vista and more so after its service packs.

My MSDN license has Windows X Home/Pro/Enterprise for download now (started at midnight). Getting Pro X64 right now.

At first I thought "what is Windows X?", and google turned up nothing, then I realized what you did (I think)... though I've never heard anyone call Windows 8 "Windows VIII" :awe:

No problems so far. Came home after work, checked updates and it was already downloaded. Installation was pretty quick and painless. Task view is the most noticeable difference after starting win 10.

X is a lot easier to type than VIII.I. I don't know why I need Google to authorize my nicknaming of something...

Game performance seems at least equal as under win 8, if not better. Don't recall breaking 60fps before the upgrade in specific spot in Ryse but now I do.

When you said Windows X Pro I thought you misspelled Windows XP Pro, but that didn't make too much sense after reading the content of your post. After reading the second post, I realized that maybe the X wasn't a typo and you were talking about a different Windows, possibly calling it X because that was your short form for the 64-bit (x64) version, or you got it confused with the "X Windows" system in Linux. It was just a really confusing thing to read.

Windows X does sound less cheezy than Windows 10 though.

Hmm, the defaults are pretty ugly on my Surface 3, will need to spend some time tweaking it. Also Edge has no touch controls. :( Hopefully they add those in soon, swiping back and forward was awesome on Modern IE.

My desktop won't prompt me to install, no idea what is wrong, it appears to have downloaded everything...

I thought it did? I thought I'd tried them on my Surface Pro 3...but maybe something changed since the preview builds...edge so far is not something I like anyway...

In the notification area there is a toggle for tablet mode. Try enabling that when you're wanting to use touch controls for any app or browser. Makes a huge difference for me on my tablet.

I've heard about issues with Windows 10 installing incorrect drivers automatically, did they ever fix this problem?

This is good news; was looking for this type of confirmation.
I am going to upgrade when I get home tonight. Thanks!

My laptop is brand new, so no real worries about breaking things with an upgrade. Should be all good.

Also checked MSDN. A multiple versions ISO is available... got all excited until I dug into the details. It's only Home and Pro. That sure does count as multiple. Too bad the download link for it is currently broken. Wanted to try that multiple versions cfg trick. We'll have to wait for MS to get back from their Starbucks breaks I guess.

Install last night for my home computer was very quick after the download.

Is it worth getting rid of my technical preview version for the release version on my work computer? It's just such a PITA to reinstall all my programs.

Why don't you test those applications in the Tech preview before making the jump?
