Skepticism on Bush's Weapons Claims Grows
WASHINGTON - CIA (news - web sites) Director George Tenet warned last fall that if the United States attacked Iraq (news - web sites), President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) might hand off his forbidden weapons to Islamic terrorists for a counterattack.
Some analysts say that scenario cannot be ruled out now that that 60 days of searches by U.S. troops have produced scant evidence of the doomsday weapons Saddam supposedly had.
Did they wind up in the hands of terrorists?
Charles Pena of the CATO Institute said if Tenet's speculation was correct, it would be the ultimate irony because, he said, the whole point of invading Iraq was to prevent Saddam from passing his weapons on to the al-Qaidas of the world.
There are more benign theories for the lack of progress in finding weapons.
(yeah, but that's by far the funniest, then you could almost actually blame Bush for making Saddam arm terrorists with WMD, even the great Rush might not be able to spin that)
U.S. Asks Experts to Survey Iraqi Labs
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The United States is inviting a group of international experts to inspect two mobile labs suspected of being used by Iraq (news - web sites) as biological weapons facilities, a senior military commander involved in the weapons hunt told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Although the laboratories do not represent proof that Iraq had biological weapons, American officials believe their only purpose was for making such weapons. Outside confirmation could help legitimize one of the Bush administration's main reasons for going to war.
(I higlighted the important part, hopefully to minimize the whining)
U.S. Opens Door to U.N. Nuclear Inspectors in Iraq
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday opened the door for U.N. experts to examine Iraq (news - web sites)'s nuclear arms development sites after the world body's watchdog agency said a nuclear contamination emergency could be developing.
"From my standpoint, from our standpoint, we have no problem with it," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said, telling reporters the issue had been discussed within the U.S. government in recent days.
(oh really..... what about this Rumi?)
