It was outstanding... very few films use that kind of filming style (not one particular event that is lead up to, just someone's life that you jump into at the beginning and then jump out of at the end)

ex. in 10 minutes of film 10 years will pass without you really knowing, you just see a child 10 years older for example.

Yeah, I doubt I'll catch it in the theater though. Having a 3 year old means I don't get out to the movies much.

I'd like to see it though.

I hadn't even heard about it until that group that was going to protest the funerals of the miners...

Fantastic movie.

I highly recommend seeing it, particularly in the theaters where the magnificence of the scenery and intensity of the facial expressions and actions are larger than life.

I laughed, I cried, and I left the theater knowing I will see it again at some point. It was beautifully written, acted, directed, etc.

I have not seen a movie this moving in quite some time.

look at the amount of screens it is on, considering that fact it has done extremely well

edit: hostel is at nearly 4x the amount of theaters, and has barely grossed more than Brokeback

I've heard good things about it but I doubt I'll go see it personally. It's just not my type of movie.

Nope.. Match Point was good though. IMHO Scarlet Johansson > cowboys. Irregardless of the quality of the film.

You are better off not posting your personal bias here at ATOT. While everyone has some sort of personal bias for/against certain types of other people, ATOT is the exception to the rule (unless you are religous, a conservative, a smoker, a non-speeder, etc...).

i thought the movie was great. it definetely makes you think about relationships and love and all that.

i had a great time with my friend discussing who got screwed over in that movie.

I actually posed this question over at the other thread as well, but I'm curious as to what people who saw the movie think.

One question though. Is it just Ennis' paranoia that causes him to see Jack getting beaten to death by an angry mob (as Jack's wife is explaining his death due to more mundane circumstances)? Or is it really what happened, just "glossed over" by the wife? I'm assuming that if Jack had in fact been killed by an angry mob, his wife could have cared less about fulfilling his last wishes.

I think how jack's wife was just glossing over what had happened. While she was talking to Ennis, her mannerisms sort of showed an indifference to his death. almost like she didn't care he died.

Usually those biases don't relate to things the people can't control, like orientation or skin color. If you don't like Star Trek fans, that's just a personal preference. If you don't like Mexicans, that's bigotry.

I've seen gay stuff in 'Six Feet Under' on HBO. Didn't bother me at all.

I'm just curious about what the film has to say. I'm curious to see how I will feel about the actors/story/movie as a whole. Will I be moved by it? Will I be repulsed?

Edit-Has anyone who isn't gay here seen this movie (I know a few people here are gay...don't know who all of you are though, nor do I care)? What is your honest opinion?

Still applies to my statement.

Ditto. The wife made up a lie about Jack's death because she was ashamed of him. That's why she sounded so rehearsed as she recounted the events. Jack was actually beaten.
