So, does Sebastian Janikowski get into the HOF?

Matt Stover

PAT 591/594 -> same number of missess, but 200 (65%)more attempts as Janikowski

FG 471/563 83.7% -> almost 200 more made and 5 points higher percentage (big difference)

2004 points - 19 seasons -> 75% more points and much longer career, also slightly higher points per season.

Retired as 4th all time leading scorer in NFL, not just kickers.

One of the most reliable kickers of all time (3rd as of beginning final season)

The only thing Janikowski has on Stover that I can find is long kicks, 2 of the longest ever being his.

I would say if Stover doesn't, Janikowski won't either unless he stays at it a very long time.

I don't know, but everytime I'm in a league tthat gives fg points with range bonus I try to take him.

He's got an incredible leg on him, but his accuracy is not great, and he hasn't made a lot of playoff-game-winning kicks. Not that that's his fault, but that's often how they're judged. I do not see him making it.

11 Seasons - 1142 points
FG: 333 262 78.7%
PAT: 359 356 99.2%

I am on the fence.

Discuss.

MotionMan

Jason Hanson

20 seasons - 1899 pts
FG: 441 548 82%
PAT 576 584 98.6%

Most field goals (50 or more yards) (total) - 45 out 83 attempts [2]
Most field goals (50 or more yards) in a season - 8 (tied with Morten Andersen)
Became the second player in league history to score 200+ points against 3 different teams (Packers, Bears, Vikings)

IMHO the HOF is for football players, not kickers. To me scoring titles and records are meaningless for kickers.

His numbers don't look as good, but look at how many of his misses are from over 50 yards.

IMO, it's too early to judge Seabass for the HOF. Let's wait and see how long he kicks and how well he does before we make that decision. I would say, though, that if he continues on for several more years he'd at least be considered.

If you want to talk about Raider kickers for HOF consideration, Shane Lechler actually deserves it more than Seabass does.

That punt was insane.

Too early, yep. He'll need to kick in bigger games too, playoffs at a minimum. That might not happen for him.

Yeah, you're right. I mean, Super Bowls have never been won by a kicker at the last second.

Don't see the relevance to being in the HOF.

Now if there was ever a kicker who could hit 85% of FGs from 60 yards away, that's a guy I could vote for because that would be game-changing.

I just don't believe kickers have a big enough role in the game over a career to merit being in the HOF.
