Are you sure that they're really gay? I just got up to the tent scene, and they just looked bored and drunk to me :)

Edit: Nevermind, they're definately gay.

I don't know. I still haven't seen the tent scene...just the beginning of it and that was quite enough for me actually. Jack seemed to initiate the relationship but Ennis seems to have the stronger roll throughout the rest of the movie.

Having seen the rest of the movie though I'll probably watch the tent scene next time. I'm curious why Ang Lee felt the need to make the scene as graphic as I've heard it is. There really isn't any graphic gay stuff after that though. Just a couple minutes here and there of some kissing and scenes of them in bed together talking.

To all you bashing the movie who haven't seen it, I'm curious why you are so vehemently against seeing it? Would you go if your girlfriend wanted you to see it? Personally, I don't mind chick flicks...so long as they aren't stupid teenage chick flicks. Hell, some of the best movies I've seen have been "chick flicks."

Well, it is a fairly depressing movie. What parts didn't you like?

I'm definitely going to watch it again.

I didn't think the tent scene was that graphic. It's not like you can see body parts or anything...

Heck no I never want to see it ever. Sorry but I dont want to be entertained by Gay love. I find it repulsive. And yes I have every right to feel that way and not be a bad person. Although I'm sure everyone will attack me now for having a legitmate feeling and participating in the conversation.

I actually thought it was sort of boring.

Keep in mind that the homosexuality aspect doesn't bother me in the slightest (some of my better friends are my old, ugly, lesbian neighbors and their gay pals). I just thought the movie was boring. IIRC, they (my gay neighbors) thought it was boring, as well.

Meh.

I haven't seen it but I might if I get bored enough one day. I've never been a fan of love stories, forbidden or otherwise. I'm not exactly repulsed by the idea of a gay love scene, but I can see no tangible payoff in watching one. In short, I'll probably just be bored during the infamous "tent scene".

The problem is, people dont get that if this movie were a normal romance between a guy and a girl, it would get awful reviews and no attention, but just because its "gay" we are supposed to praise it? And if we dont, we are declared homphobes.. YEAH RIGHT!

I have no interest in seeing this movie. Gayness disgusts me. What you do in the privacy of your own bedroom is your business but putting it up on the silver screen is a bit much for me.

Me too. It was just another love story, if you can really say that homosexuality doesn't bother you.

Err, what about on-screen hetero sex then?

That's fine by me, but I'm a hetero. I'm sure that if I were gay I wouldn't have a problem with fudge nudging in the movie, but I'm not gay and I find it revolting. Thankfully I have the option to not watch the movie, which is what I decided to do.

I'm not praising it because it's "gay", I'm praising it because it's a good movie. Why is this a problem? I don't understand why people completely discount the trials and tribulations that gay people go through...let alone two gay men...dealing with their own desires to fit in to society by denying who they are...in the midwest...30 years ago.

Comparing this movie to a "normal romance" between a guy and a girl is like comparing the Space Shuttle to an Ultralight.
