Crows are awesome. I've long wanted one as a pet. I was scouting roosts for awhile, and saw one that I possibly could have gotten to, but it was still iffy, and I'm not 100% committed to having a bird at this point.

Fun fact. I sent my daughter to school once with a bowl of mice, and they put them on top of the trashcan outside in the cold... Ok, it was a can, not a bowl, but still... Fuckin' Christians...

They can also make their own tools. I remember reading that some New Caldonian variety could bend wire into hook to reach down tube to pick up a tiny bucket of food by the handle.

When I was growing up there was a pet crow in town that could say a few words (football, touchdown and herbie), he used to be someones pet but got away. One story I haven't heard about in these documentaries is that in Utah there are reports of crows chasing deer into the road to be hit by cars. It kinda blew my mind when my nephew told me that. A murder of crows working together to take down a large animal.

Knowing the location of reliable food sources really isn't a sign of above-average intelligence, only sufficient evidence in order to survive.

Now, if crows knew to avoid McDonalds because of its effects on their health, that would be a different story!

Something I heard about crows is that they'll drop something that needs cracking open on a road so a car runs it over and cracks it open for them. (google for 'crow crack road car')

They usually pop out from under my sink. This particular group wasn't popping though. They were babies that nested in my kitchen towel drawer. They were very young. I can't remember if their eyes were open yet or not. Mom tore the shit out of my kitchen towels building the nest. I thought it would be an interesting educational experience to see baby mice. I guess that cut too greatly into god time though.
