Junior high can be so cruel
Siri is so far ahead of anything google has that its ridiculous.
This is probably what really happened:
1. Friends jokingly call Amdhunter a stupid lovely human.
2. Amd thinks to himself "sweet! now I got something to post about on ATOT"
3. Amdhunter makes this thread pretending he was seriously butthurt by his friends calling him a (refer to 1.)
I kind of understand that WP7 hasn't had wide adoption in the US because of the whole 'people only buy phones subsidized by a carrier' ecosystem you have there (I am aware not a lot of carriers offer much in the way of choice with WP7).You might not be far off there. I think it will take off once Win8 comes out.
People were expecting a 4.3" screen, thinner case, 4G, and a longer battery life. What they got is a two year old phone with an updated processor that matches what other standard phones have today. Hence the drop in Apple stock yesterday. Apple releases innovations, and this seemed to be a lot of hoopla over a minor update. They gave the image of "we're no longer on top, we're struggling for ideas."
The new iOS 5 didn't impress either: it's main hallmark Suri (voice command) is viewed in the same light as Facetime...cool to show off, but nobody really uses it.
The new iPhone is being viewed as a stopgap to keep relevant among competitors with more advanced products. I was waiting to see what they released because I want to buy an iPhone for my daughter for Christmas. I'll probably just get her an upgraded older model for $99.

What I can't quite understand is why the phones didn't take off in the rest of the world where people mostly buy no-contract unlocked phones. I bought a WP7 phone (HTC Mozart 7, 8GB storage, 8MP camera, 800x480 screen) when the competing Androids (from LG, Samsung, Motorola, HTC) were offering 480x320 screens, typically with 2GB memory and a 2GB microSD card thrown in to boost it up to 4GB, usually on a 800MHz CPU. Then the HD7 fell down to the same price (5MP camera but 16GB storage, 4.3" screen instead of 3.7") and yet, no takers.
It plain doesn't make sense to me.
To say it is an upgraded 2 year old phone is kind of crazy, it's essentially all new internals from the cpu to the camera. If you're not changing the screen size, why do change the screen, it's the best available.
I am also heavily invested in apps.
Siri sounds retarded. I don't want to walk around talking to my phone like an idiot. I can't imagine being on a bus or something with 50 people all giving voice commands to their phones to do everything instead of typing.
I really want the extra horsepower to play non-converted MKV videos and have a better overall experience on my phone.
But for a lot of us who drive more frequently than taking the bus or jog around, or walk around a lot and think of things we don't want to forget, etc ...it could prove useful.
it seems nice, but let's remember none of the heavyweights invent a damn thing. apple bought the inventor for $200 million, just like ms bought the kinect, and so forth. and the only reason they're buying these outfits is because they can't steal like they used to.
I believe wasted, as opposed to invested, may have been a more appropriate word.

HD I hope, only the best 1080P for that little screen.
Android fanboys are annoying.
I watch a lot of anime, and yeah they are usually 720p. I've put 1080p vids on my iPad 2, but mostly just to show off that it can do it (mostly.)
