Too bad the Bible wasn't originally written in just one langauge, then at least there could be a claim that it can only be considered proper if in that language. Like how Muslims say the Quran is only correct if read in Arabic. At the very least then translation issues wouldn't come into play. I think it's probably too much to ask people to learn Ancient Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew.

By "the Bible" do you refer to the 66 books? Or more? Or less? Do you know there is a theory that the greek portions are actually translations and that originally they were in hebrew?

I always find it funny how religious arguments happen on this forum. This thread isn't even a topic that should automatically end up in argument. Yet it occurs. BTW, for those in this thread that haven't figured it out yet, being a evangelical Atheist is just as bad as being an evangelical Christian. You still come off as a giant douchebag. Some people believe in God and Jesus (though I personally am curious what the H stands for in Jesus H. Christ), some don't.

the h in jesus h. christ stands for hume, of course. jesus's middle name is hume.

That is an assumption based on an assumption.
Everything we do or think or extrapolate relies on assumption. The mere fact that the claim is based on one is not really saying much for or against its credibility.

Descartes would agree, except the fundamental "I Think therefore I am" is not based on assumption.

That is still an Assumption, but if we quibble about that then there's no point for Life, Eating, Breathing, Heart beating, so why do any of it?

I think it's a safe assumption.

Making a claim against another claim based on compounded assumptions by definition is not credible, even if true.

What Sandorski said. I never said most of the assumptions we take for granted are controversial assumptions, because nobody would ever get anywhere without them.

So...basically all maths goes out the window, then.

Greek was the intellectual language at the time the new testament was being written. It makes sense that the originals would be Greek. I'd need to see some heavy evidence to the contrary to think otherwise.

It's not an assumption it is the only fact we can know to be true (according to descartes) We are questioning, we are thinking, therefore on some level we do exist.

From what I understand the theory was brought up due to some text having the signs of being a translation rather than normal text, due to structure or something. Without originals there is no way to know, but it is an interesting theory. Just think if for some reason the oldest text we had was in Latin, what would you assume then?

That the catholic church were raping children before we even knew it existed?

I would assume something must be amiss. Greek was to that period what Latin was around the Renaissance. If there was something really important written down it was written in Greek back then.

I am all for equality so I give you two choices. Option 1 I put it up, you put it down. Option 2, I piss all over it, and you wipe it clean. Your choice.

How about being civilized instead? (1)You put it back the way you found it after doing your business OR (2) sit down to do your business even if it's a number one. 😀

so when equality doesn't work in your favour, you ask for civility. OK, how about you lift the seat after every use?

Seat must always be down. The LID must be down too as the flush button is behind the lid. Of course landlubbers don't have vacuum heads so it's kind of a moot point to them...
