so apparently a 23% tip wasn't enough...

I just pay cash.

Means a bit more planning, but I don't have to worry about this, or a waiter/waitress skimming my card, or leaving my card behind, or akward splitting of the check with friends, etc.

Easy mistake. if you had the receipt and CC statement i'd just bring it with me when i went back to the place. Show it to the manager and more than likely they will fix it on the spot for ya (either free coffee or just a refund). Had it happen to me But it wasnt a tip error but a charge error. Got 12 bucks added on cause they hit the meal twice on accident. Just brought the receipt and statement in and the manager let me and my gf eat for free (well more of a buy 1 get 1 since id already paid half of it).

no sense making a big deal over it just bring it up next time your there casually (well assuming it not like 6 months later) and itll get fixed

the bill was $21.99 for desert and coffee at a local well-known bakery.
i paid via cc and put down $27.00 for the total and left the tip line blank.

i always round up to whole dollar amounts so when my cc statement came and saw $28.99, i knew something was up. the bitch changed my 7 to an 8, and the 0's to 9's.

the extra $2 is trivial, but the greed and audacity of her to change the bill has me livid.
already called up the place and the manager is looking into it and will call me back.

Why are you such a dick?

You know most "waitresses" can't do math.

Figure the tip out yourself next time and you won't have this problem.

I agree. You should really use cash at a restaurant.

So any update - call back from the restaurant?

Probably just an innocent mistake - however, if she did purposely alter the ticket -then I'd say that's justification for her being fired.

no callback.
i don't know how it can be a mistake. ever see those cc keypads? they're laid out like this.

how could she mess up the 7/8 and 9/0?

they may not be the brightest bunch, but i am sure their ability to calculate the tip % is quicker than yours or mine, due to repetition.

Servers like this are the reason I only tip 15%. You have to be exceptional for me to even consider 20%. If you don't want your pay dictated by a stranger, get a real job.

Yeah I tip 15% to a minimum of $2 (or 0$ if they do a shitty job, I'll still tip if the food is bad but the service is good after telling the mgr. that the food sucks), but how is waiting tables not a "real" job? Most of the ones I've seen bust their ass.

Don't tip. Problem solved, it's not your job to pay them.

It's an American social custom so DWI.

When you run a tip check, the tip goes in separately. They run the card with the original amount and then go back and put the tip in. This requires them to add. Since you put $27 in, she probably assumed your tip was $1 more than it actually was, which doubles the fuckup because it was already only $0.01 over $1, turning it in to a $1.99 fuckup instead of a $1.01 fuckup.

Either way, it's your fault for being lazy and the waitress's fault for being stupid.

Rough percentage, maybe. Actual dollar amount, no.

Again, when they enter a tip check, the original dollar amount is put in first, and then the tip is put in later.

so she thought her bringing out a couple of deserts was worth roughly 32%.
doubtful.

No, she thought that $27 - $21.99 was $6 and change, not $5 and change. So, she rounded her tip to the nearest dollar, which was $7 instead of actually doing the math and realizing that the tip should have been $5.01.

Again, your fault for being lazy, her fault for being stupid.
