i always round up to whole dollar amounts so when my cc statement came and saw $28.99, i knew something was up. the bitch changed my 7 to an 8, and the 0's to 9's.

the extra $2 is trivial, but the greed and audacity of her to change the bill has me livid.
already called up the place and the manager is looking into it and will call me back.

if a waitress screwed with your receipt to give herself a bigger tip, she's probably done it to every one of her other customers too, who may not have been as vigilant about checking their credit card statements.

Good on you for looking into it. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a mistake though. When I worked in a restaurant, we'd take the receipts and manually enter the tips into a computer at the end of the night to charge the CC. With piles of receipts in a person's hand, I'd guess it is more likely she entered the wrong number than tried to steal $2.

While there are a ton of dumb people in the world, that would be a dumb way to steal money. With even 15 customers on a given day, you're walking away with an extra $30 and are guaranteed to lose your job within a year.

I've had things like this happen more often than I care to count. I ALWAYS keep my receipts and check my statement.

I keep my receipts and periodically compare them to the downloaded information in Quicken and compare my Quicken info to the receipt each month.

I keep all my receipts for a couple years, which I know is odd. However, I am not sure why people do not keep their receipts at least until they compare them to their monthly cc statements.
