Wow. You need to lay off the caffeine man. I wouldn't consider myself an ATI fanchimp, having owned 6 Nvidia cards and 3 ATI cards in the last 2 years, but I would still consider AEG tactics to be unprofessional. It bothers me that the place I go to converse with fellow computer-enthusiasts has wolves sneaking in per say. It's one thing for someone to have an opinion about something, even if its wrong, but to be paid to inculcate things that might not be true is just shoddy.

Yep. I think the mods should ban Rollo, and also ban any other known users working for AEG (it there are any I don't know). If in the future more users will be found working for either ATi's or nVidia's marketing groups they should get insta-banned. After they ban Rollo I think the mods should just lock all AEG threads. This AEG story makes it harder for me to believe online advice, and maybe they should add a sticky at the top of the video forum or something.

Rollo has already threatened to sic the lawyers on AT if he were to be banned.

Maybe it's just me, but this whole thing doesn't bother me much. Far as I can tell, the only difference between a shill and your average rabid fanboy is that the former is a better businessman. Forum integrity doesn't seem to be all that threatened either - after all, there is no 'no rabid fanboys' rule, so expecting impartiality, fairness or accuracy is kind of self delusional anyway. Anyone seriously expecting that in a forum basically open to anyone, be they honest enthusiast or complete nutcase has problems more serious then AEG.

As for Rollo, I don't know the details of that situation. Would have to look at the ToS round here to see if being a shill is actually prohibited. If it's not and there's just the banned members situations, well, like I said, I don't know the details and can think of situations where banning Rollo and unbanning those members would be appropriate, and ones where leaving Rollo be and leaving the banned members banned is appropriate.

It's the same "unprofessional" as you call them tactics used to sell cars, home elctronics, games... pretty much everything. It's noth ing new and it's certainly not going against any laws. Unethical maybe but they probably know a lot more about the cards than most people here.

The only change I can see happening here is a mandatory tag in the sig of Marketing employees be they AEG, ATI, nVidia or whoever. That way you can choose to listen or not.

Actually, my man Otis, what really pisses me off is this bloody "if you disagree with me, you are a fanboy" carp. That has got to go. The 'witch hunt' is partly a response to that because there is a very vocal bunch that will label anybody an ATI fanboy if they disagree with them. There are also some uninformed, yet enthusiast, ATI fanboys that have to jump into it (and one Rollo is always weeding out for as a public service when they reappear with a new user id.... Turtle). But I notice that the ATI fanboys are usually shouted down and sadly, Rollo has been part of that. The reaction is natural when it looks to them as he was 'paid' to do it.

It is the mods decision, but me, maybe a vacation and the requirement of having a label in the sig that anyone who is compensated for such services must disclose it or face having their membership revoked. Rollo has been a good source for breaking nVidia info because of his connections. But sadly, he does tend to be the first guy to roll over any rock that has ATI dirt on the bottom and hold it up for all to see.

I have seen RBV5 mentioned too. He has ALWAYS been upfront that he tested for ATI. He has been fair, and he helps answer many AIW questions. In fact, after the last finger pointing, he changed his sig to make sure there was no conflict of interest.

Maybe I should list CTP/Beta/alpha tester for MS stuff in my sig ... ;P

Well, to be fair, he's right. It just turns into a quest of false accusations (even if that wasn't the original intent) and overall degrades user relations here.
