Not as bad as many people got it, but I did have to chisel 2" of ice off the front end of my truck. Took about an hour and busted my ice scraper in the process.

got the driveway done. then the neighbor came over and we went and got his driveway done (we both have blowers. mine is a huge monster) then ended up doing a young guy next door.

not that it matters. there are a few huge 4-6ft drifts across the road. we are not going anywhere.

Someone stole my snowshovels, my faith in humanity is still praying they go lost under the snow somewhere other than where we had them, and that the tracks that lead up to my back door from the street are a coincidence. Luckily, the father in law has arrived with shovels, and is helping us dig out. Well, helping the wife dig out, im working from home supposedly.

I love catching thieves. Especially the big reveal when you find out who they are. There is nothing worst.

Here's a few pics I took today from southern WI:

Fuck that...I remember (not so fondly) my years in snow country. Sure, on Christmas morning, it can be pretty, and the first snowfall might be fun...snowballs and snowmen...but when you have to drive in it daily and have to work outside in it...the fun goes away pretty fast. PLUS, it's COLD!!

You live on a Plantation down south or something?

Almost...he's in SoCal...home of the 29 cent illegal immigrant...😛

So...are youse folks ready for the second part of the punch?
Tonight's weather says there's some cold, possibly sub-zero cold heading your way.

I also found this cute little video:

I remember seeing the roofs of several buildings collapse under heavy snow...but never the entire building.

Picture of my friend's street in Chicago

It doesn't look like the street is even wide enough for a plow to drive down to clear the snow. And is that a double parked car in the middle of the road?? Probably yet another reason the plows weren't able to clear the street.

That's really sad. Not a single person out there digging the streets or helping their neighbors. Sad. 🙁

Pretty much every side street looks like that, mine does. Luckily I have no car. Also, my landlord pays someone to clear my sidewalks so didn't have to deal with that either 🙂

Albany NY actually declared a state of emergency, and everything was closed today. The problem is we didn't get a storm today...they were expecting 20-30 inches, we got 9...yesterday.

Yea, the wife and I were just talking about that. We got about 18" of snow between yesterday and this morning, tonight it is supposed to be around -10. Lovely.

I don't mind it so long as my car starts. It's about due for a new battery the current battery turns the motor pretty slow when it's below zero, this will be the coldest I've had to start in this winter. < fingers crossed >

There's no way in hell that a building in Boston, built to code, should collapse under the weight of that amount of snow.

The vast majority of people here don't have shovels. Landlords and building owners take care of the sidewalks and the city takes care of the streets. Works fine for regular snowfalls.

I'm hearing that side streets like the photo won't start to be cleared until Thursday or Friday. That is largely because they actually have to use end loaders and dump trucks to get rid of the massive amount of show since you can't just plow it.

Snow, rain bring down roofs across the region

It's in Easton, MA. 3+ feet of heavy packed wet snow has caused collapsed roofs all over the state and I assume in other parts of the country. I know building owners of flat roofs around here have been removing the snow off their roofs.

My next door neighbor has a low pitched roof over his addition and I saw him this weekend on the roof shoveling snow off. I know my brother owns a roof rake to remove snow so that ice damns don't build-up and cause water damage in his house.

Here's a surveillance camera video of a roof of a parking garage collapsing in Lynn, MA last week as two people in a car were trying to drive out. They're alive but their car was crushed down to the dashboard and they were trapped were a couple of hours.
