U guys watch the local news tonight? Hilarous vids of people sliding into each other this morning.

The last signifigant snow in the Corvallis/Albany area was in 1992, had about a foot, lasted for 2 days. I would say over the years I have been here (40 that I can count as remembering) we have had a signigicant snow (6" + ) every 5 years. I recall several good snows in the '60s including Jan '69 when we had 2'-3' of snow in the vallies, talk about being snowed in! I don't remember much of the '70s, but in the '80s we had several nasty ice storms and snow storms, The last 10 yr has been an anomoly. We have been overdue for this snow.

Here in Oregon, we have all the snow you want, all you need do is get in your car and drive to the mountians. Crater Lake in Southen Oregon has one of, if not the, highest average snowfalls in the Nation. Something like 900" a year. The nice thing is most of the people live in the valleys. There is snow all winter above about 4000', the valley floor is more like 300' so we get rain that was snow 600' up.

I believe that snow should stay in the mountains, and in post cards. It has no business in my driveway!

There is anther pretty potent line of showers about to move into the DT portland and eastward areas.

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

😀

The precipitation currently in the Portland area seems to be falling as rain! 🙁 Here, at least..

Temp has actually risen in the last couple of hours, hovering at 34F...

Come back, Old Man Winter!

Hehe, tell me about it. *crunch* followed by another two cars crunching from the momentum of the first car.😀

PS Eli, rain isn't necessarily a bad thing. All week, the cause of the cold temps has been cold air dragged down by precipitation; that rain should drag some cool air down with it(then again, if I'm right, this is also a bad thing, since said rain will ice over)

Hah! easy for you to say! Most people are sitting at home right now, watching the temperature, if it freezes they can decided in the morning wether or not to drive through the ice to get to work. I on the other hand am at work NOW, in the morning I have the choise of driveing home to a warm bed or.... Staying at work????

Please no, freezing, the roads are now covered with water from the melting snow, a freeze would turn them into a sheet of ice. No fun.

Now once I get home... it is the weekend.,... Let it snow! (til Monday any way!) 🙂

Well, I think we've got about 10" of snow on the ground total here. Just put the chains on to try and get to work tomorrow. Luckily it's not far.

Now they're saying it won't go below freezing tonight. When run through the weather translator, that's coming up as "20 degrees and a foot of snow". Great.:Q

WTH man it's not that much snow. Novel as this is for us, what we've gotten so far would be a pleasant late spring in Denver.

I will never understand why most Oregonians are such bad snow drivers, and I'm a native (and I'm an excellent snow driver). Anyone who can't drive out in what we just had should seriously consider investing in a driving course.

Finally got our snow this morning.

All week, my kids have been telling me how unfair it is that Eugene and Portland are getting snow and we aren't.
Especially since we normally get more snow than up North.

This morning there was about an inch or two on the ground. And it's snowing hard right now. Luckily I live only 5 miles from work and there are no hills on the way.

Well, our power was out all night and most of the day. Finally got it back on this afternoon. We've got over 26 inches of snow on the ground, and it's still snowing. In fact, it's supposed to really start coming down hard in a bit. The storm is over Vernonia now, and I'm north/northwest of Hillsboro. I'll have at least 3 feet of snow on the ground by this time tomorrow.

I guess I am a bad snow driver. On Feb 19 of last year I drove from the Middle of NJ to Allentown Pa (about 80 mi) in the middle of what became the Presidents Day Blizzard. I can drive in snow, no big problem. If you look at my post I was not worrying about snow as much as a freeze which would have turned the roads, already wet from melting snow into veritable ice rinks. Returning home from work, at 6:30am after a 12hr shift on streets of solid ice (not snow, there is a difference!) was not my idea of fun.

Fortunatly the temps hovered in the mid 30s so there was no ice, just lots of slush on the sides of the roads and on the less traveled side streets. Even someone from Co would have respect for the Santiam Pass in the middle of a PNW storm.

There are really a significant number of Oregonians who drive in snow and ice with regularity, if you travel to Eastern Oregon this time of year you need to have these skills. Many do.

You hear lots of complaining 'cuz there are many who believe as I do that snow belongs in the Mountains and postcards, not in the valley!

In this case, that wasn't what was happening. The rain was comming from a more southwesterly direction, dragging warmer air with it. That's why it started melting in Corvalis and Salem before here.

It's typical Oregon weather though. It snows for a day, and is gone the next.. lol

I'm just upset my girlfriend missed it. 🙁

Well, tell her to stick around through the weekend and Monday, she's bound to see some, Eli.😱

Well.., now that it's actually getting time for her to come back........

I'm kinda flip-flopped. I want her to be able to come back.

She's all the way up in Port Angeles, Washington, with her dad.. and as you may or not know, there is only one highway in and out of the peninsula.

If it gets too bad.. you're stuck without specialty vehicles, heh.

Talk about backwards- in Erie, we're usually buried so much right now it takes us an hour of digging to find a car. RIght now, though, theres no snow, anywhere. I'm wondering if I should cut the grass...
