I partly stopped driving for fear of denting the family car. I will definately slow down, brake early, but don't trust anyone to do the same given how people drive in the summer on my route. And did I mention my route is very hilly.

People were driving slow today too, and the interstate was just fine...but then when it's sloppy, they're too fast. WTF.

I know you guys get weather like us and probably get the same kind of idiots. If its on the side streets...by all means, drive as slow as you need. But on the freeway you are going to cause an accident going that slow.

Michigan needs more money...they should ticket those idiots for impeding the flow of traffic. Or let me PIT them....one of the two.

I live where it never snows, at least I can't remember driving in any around here. When I visited the east coast I spun out one day during the winter and the car only stopped after what seemed like a long time. Was lucky, didn't hit anything. I've spun out a time or two in dry conditions too, but I've long since reigned in my driving theatrics. I realized I was living on borrowed time if I kept that up.

you think snow is bad, you should see the drivers where I live when it's wet. they make getting a license too easy.

We had 12-14" of snow on Wednesday, the roads were awful on Wednesday, and still pretty bad on Thursday. Today they weren't good, but not nearly as bad as they had been. Most people were driving the speed limit at 55mph today. But one old freakin person I got behind was going 25-30mph on a two lane 55mph road. Of course I get stuck behind this person and can't pass for miles.

The whole time all that I could think was "this is probably the first time this idiot has been out of their house in two days, and is fucking up traffic because they don't know how to drive on snowy roads." When everyone else has been dealing with it for 2+ days, and knows what condition the road is in and how safe it is to drive at 55mph.

They'd probably be fine if they just inflated their tires to sidewall...
You're right, because inflating to sidewall decreases the chance of hydroplaning and since most cars are chronically under-inflated, it's no surprise that people hydroplane as often as they do.

All these retards who think 4WD or AWD makes them able to drive fast in the snow. These are the ones now-a-days you see crashing in bad weather. It give s false sense of security.

Oh, it helps you drive fast alright. It just doesn't help with the whole 'stopping' element. 😛

Stay the hell off the road.

Agreed.

Buy an SUV. We all know that an SUV is the best tool for getting through the white stuff...

Unless the nut behind the wheel doesn't know how to drive it. Amuses me sometimes when I pass 4x4/AWD vehicles in the median and ditch because they thought they were invincible with it, while I drive by in my RWD Camaro, which as everyone knows RWD is horrible in the snow and automatically makes you skid off the road :hmm:

They forget that 4WD is just that, 4 wheel drive - doesn't mention stopping does it? 😀

A winter statistic

98% of Americans say 'OH SHIT' before

going in the ditch on a slippery road.

The other 2% are from Minnesota or North Dakota and they say,

'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS.'

Tires do have a lot to do with how a vehicle handles in inclement weather. The $40 bargain basement radials at the tire shop most likely are not going to do well in rain or snow.

I always put good tires on my car and I have VSA on my car, but even then I'm driving in the middle of the speed range. On Wednesdays snow storm I ended up doing about 40-45 on the interstate, Some cars passed me and I passed some cars.

i agree. but also think they need more experiance

what bothers me is idiots in trucks or Suv's. about 90% of the time when i see a vehicle in the ditch its a truck or SUV. yes they make getting around in the snow easy but that does not mean you can drive like a idiot and be ok!

i drive as fast as i think is safe. if you get behnd me and want to go faster then fine pass me. when i see you in the ditch latter don't get pissy when i laugh.

a few years ago i was driving in town to get some formula (otherwise i wouldnt have gone out) and there was maybe 4 inches of snow on the roads and it was icy underneath. i was going about 30 when a car comes up behind me. he honks and gets on my bumber i slowed down a little. so he decides to pass me and slid into the ditch. i stopped and asked if he needed a phone he said no (a car full of teenagers) and i said thats why i was going 30..and walked off laughing.

My fiance was driving along a straight, two lane (one on each side) road doing the 35mph speed limit in pretty heavy snow. She was putting along nicely with no problems when an Escalade starts riding her bumper and eventually flashing their high beams at her. She thought doing the speed limit in those conditions was more than acceptable, so she just kept doing what she was doing. The Escalade tries flying around her right hand side to pass her, gets in front, fishtails, loses control and plants himself into a telephone pole. Ha ha.

+1 I think way too many people drive with shit tires on their car.

We get too many people from out of state driving around here because of the universities and it seems the out of state plates are always the ones who are either going 35mph on the highway when everyone else is doing 55-60 or the ones that pull out in front of you, not realizing that they can't accelerate quickly because of the conditions.

Last year I almost went off the road because someone pulled out in front of me on a two lane road. There was no way I would be able to stop in time because they were spinning their tires, barley able to get any acceleration at all. I had to quickly cut into the other lane to avoid them (thankfully no cars coming the other way)which threw me into a rather nasty series of spins. After completing a 1080 degree spin and narrowly missing a guard rail (thank god I was able to keep my car on the road) this was by far the closest I ever got to actually getting out of my car and beating the piss out of someone else

I don't mind driving in the snow it's just the idiots that come along with it I hate
