I haven't even watched SNL for a REALLY long time. Sorta felt it got bad a while ago. Hopefully they'll find some good replacements.

I think the sad state of the show today very much reflects on the quality of hollywood stars today.

No new excellent talent has risen for quite a while.
Most are hollywood veterans who are too expensive to cast
and the rest are the "all looks no talent" ones who create a stir but ruin a movie/show from lack of talent
and fizzle off into nothing.

They need to ditch Tina Fey too. Her news act is tiresome and she rarely appears in any skits. They've got a couple of funny new people if they would write some decent material for them.

I guess this is all part of the up and down cycle of SNL. They also need to ban Ashton Kutcher from hosting the show because he really isn't very funny. Not in a SNL way anyway.

you know a show is on its last legs when people lament the loss of Jimmie Fallon and Chris Kattan...

its been over for like 20 years now

Edit: maybe not 20 yrs, but definitely since Farley!

You young pups don't remember or appreciate the original days when SNL was full of the greats, Belushi, Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, etc. Those were the good old days, no other cast has been as good as the original.

Come on, Norm Mcdonald was one of the best... he probably got fired from doing too much OJ jokes... just read the book "Live from New York".

Remember he said the F word live?

The best Norm moment was when he was on Conan with one of the Melrose place chicks, she had just left the show and done a movie with Carrot Top. Norm's segment was great, but when she came out her whole segment was Norm making fun of her for doing a Carrot Top movie. It was brutal and utterly hilarious. Conan completely lost control of the show, he just couldn't stop laughing long enough to shut Norm up. :D

Had to post this...

CONAN: [To Courtney.] What's the movie going to be called?

NORM: [Interrupting.] I know what it's going to be called! [Laughter.]

CONAN: Yeah? What's that?

NORM: If it's got Carrot Top in it, you know what a good name for it would be?

CONAN: What's that, Norm?

NORM: "BOX OFFICE POISON!" [Applause.]

I agree, although I think the show was actually going downhill a bit once Farley, Sandler, Spade, etc. became the main players. I loved the original 70s cast. But I also think the show went through a BIG down period during the early thru mid 80s (save Eddie Murphy), then picked back up in the late 80s and early 90s during the Dana Carvey, Mike Meyers, Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Victoria Jackson, etc. years. That cast, along with the original 70s cast was probably the most well-rounded bunch IMO with several stars, but they also didn't rely upon just one or two people to carry the show like other eras of the show have had to do.

CONAN: So what's the movie called?

COURTNEY: Chairman of the Board.

NORM: I bet "Board" is spelled B-O-R-E-D

I do have it on tape, but now way to capture it ATM.

That's the funniest segment I've ever seen Conan. To fully appreciate it you have to see the Norm segment right before it too.

I forget the stories he was telling before she came out, but it was bizarre, totally inappropriate stuff for TV. The kind of stuff where Conan is saying "WHY, WHY?!?!" He had built the audience (and Conan) up into sort of a frenzy where they were ready to explode at anything he said. Then that poor girl came out to promote that horrible Carrot Top movie and it was a total setup for Norm... it was great!

Will Farrell was the god of SNL. When he left, I started to lose faith. Watching the current sketches could be painful...but Kattan and Fallon could keep them entertaining...with them gone, they had better find some new talent, because the rest of the current cast is terrible.

SNL really blew it recently when they had a chance to do a spoof on the Iraqi Information Minister. I don't normally watch it anymore...but thought SNL gonna have something really funny about that guy!!! What a bust!!
Bring back the old guys!!

I started watching SNL maybe 5 or 6 years ago, and for a few years I thought it was hilarious. Skits like the "Ladies Man" and the "Techno Guys" were great. "Celebrity Jeopardy" was also an all-time favorite ("BUCK FUTTER!") Once that cast started leaving, though, I've personally not been impressed and the last couple years have been particularly bad. I will shed no tears at Fallon leaving, I have no idea how you people can consider him talented. To be a talented actor, especially a comedian, you should at least be able to keep a straight face while delivering 50% of your jokes. I swear to god, Fallon must've thought his own voice was the funniest thing he'd ever heard.

You do know she's a writer for SNL, not an actor, right?

Dude...that show has sucked since way back when Kevin Nealon stopped doing Weekend Update and that no-talent assclown Norm McDonald took over...

Nealon funnier than MacDonald? Obviously your parents didn't beat you enough as a child.

Norm McDonald is as unfunny as Colin Quinn. He simply SUCKED at Weekend Update just like Colin.

The only thing he was good for were the Larry King skits.

come on kids...
chevy chase is the weekend update!
anyone else blows...

Good evening and welcome to Weekend Update. I'm Chevy Chase and you're NOT!
