It depends on the games that you want to play and how complete you want the games to be. You can get well loved copies of common games for not too much dough, but good copies with boxes and manuals of many games will run you $30 to $100 or even more.

What we are telling you is that a hand held device that does what you want likely does not exist. You need a GBA with a flash card and emulators. Many SNES games have been ported to the GBA anyway, like Super Mario World and TLOZ: A Link to the Past. Plus, consider how big SNES cartridges really are, and consider that the portable device isn't really going to be that portable. Not like a GBA SP.

How much do you want to spend on such a device? It isn't going to come cheap you know... and a GBA SP runs $80 new, and then you immediately have access to a huge library of games, including many NES and SNES ports. In my opinion some of the best games out there are on the GBA (not in terms of graphics, but in terms of play quality).

GBASP + blank cartridge + LEGALLY owned NES/SNES = awesomeness.

you can also buy all the super mario games for gba, as well as zelda ALTTP and final fantasy 1,2,4,5,6. (5 and 6 are coming soon - last good games for the gba before nintendo kills it off)

How would that work, exactly? A GBA could be had for $50 secondhand, that'd be okay. And you buy the games, so you can download ROMS, okay. I understand that.. But how would you make them play on a GBA? Could you explain? Is it like modding, or something? I'm not too into consoles, so I don't really know..

Basicaly there is a GBA flash cartridge, that you can buy. Copy the emulator and roms onto it and wala, snes handheld. The only problem with the GBA is that you are short two buttons.

Yeah, that kinda sucks.. But can GBA (SP)'s execute EXE files, then? The only emulators I found were Windows-based.

:D That thing doesn't even have the capabilities of the NES.

There is a SNES emulator for the DS, but I'm not sure how mature it is.

And of course the PSP, but that's crazy expensive.

$199 is too much a multimedia powerhouse? O...K.... o_O

It's not too expensive (well, for me it is :p), but I wouldn't use it. It's nice that it can play excellent 3D games, MP3's, movies and whatnot, but I wouldn't use it. And I don't like paying for what I don't use ;).

A few weeks ago I priced a cartrage of Earthbound on ebay. $70 bucks. $70 freaking bucks, I'm still probably going to buy one though.

What game is that? I know someone who paid ?250 for a Super Mario game (although he already had one) because it had a special serial number..

I think I summed it up pretty well back there. Google is a short click away if you really want more.
I think you have do a bunch of drugs to really get the game, but somehow I still find it awesome. :D

It's hard to put a finger on it, it's just the overall style of the game. Extremely awesomely quirky.
It's really surreal, has amusing dialogue, a random existential dog, I don't know, it's just awesome.

Sounds like fun. I've bid on two auctions for SNES (what's the plural of SNES? SNES?) and I think I'll risk one of them to make a handheld. If I succeed or come close to it, I'll probably get some more and sell them :D. If I don't, it doesn't matter, they're really cheap, anyway (now, at least :p).

Have you considered the handheld device that is made by Sony? The PSP or "Playstation Portable" you could buy one and then run emulator software on it.

You can buy the adapter off eBay for about 30 bucks and steal the CF card that came with you rsister's camera and you're in business.

I don't have a sister, but good idea. I'll think about it :p.

I could sell you my Axim x3i. It does NES and SNES emulation. It will actually do some PSX too.

I actually do have it for sale if you're interested... I could give you a good deal...

There quite rare over here (I've only seen one, ever) and no-one sells them.
