I placed an order prior going to Fry's.. was denied and they offered $189. The CSR over the phone was bashing MC quite a bit (saying they never had stock, would try to upsell, etc.) as I was cancelling the order. He was shocked Fry's pricematched as well.

Eh, got the $189.99 counter offer too. I mean, still a great price and is cheaper than normal Micro Center pricing + tax, let alone gas and tolls to get there. I'll think about it.

Yeah $190 is a good deal if you were in the market for a 2500K. This was just an impulse purchase for me, though, don't really want it that bad so I'll pass on the offer.

Oh man! Here was my ordeal: Link in the email telling me price match was denied took me to the Canadian site which wouldnt allow me to log in. So I call the US customer service number, it busy for 30 mins. So I called the number in my email which was the Canadian customer service. The instant this guy sees Microcenter price match he launches into a rant about how this price was bogus and MC is sham company. I tell him real quick that MC is a stand up company and honors their prices. He tries to give me lip and we ended up exchanging some heated words that degraded quickly into derogatory name calling before he hung up on me. My wife was like "wth is going on in there". 😀

I then tried the US # again and got through the 3rd time around. Totally different customer service, the guy was nice and polite and canceled my order for both the CPU and PC case I had ordered without any fuss.

+1 for the good ol USA

Bummer.. will have to cancel. MC just came in stock for me on the chips though! I think im gonna buy it 🙂

^ Lol

Can't blame the guy, he's probably been getting an earful all day from customers who feel like they're entitled to a price match on this.

The guy I called up was nice, he correctly pointed out that Micro Center is probably already out of stock of these at most places and that $190 is still a pretty solid deal. I told him that this was an impulse purchase and that the offer was good but I wasn't interested in buying at $190, he canceled the order, and that was it.

Dunno about that. Both Central and Westmont locations around Chicago still shows 10+ in stock. At this rate I may be convinced to drive down to Micro Center and buy this along with a couple more hot deals such as 2600K+Z68 with $80 discount and $120 2100+H61 to stock up for future builds. Just used my last $120 combo for my aunt a couple weeks ago, and I was thinking of going back to mATX for my next LAN rig (currently use mini ITX).

I'd imagine the ones close to their California warehouse where the price matches were being checked are probably mostly gone.

The Kansas City Micro Center still has them in stock, just too bad it's two hours away. :'(

I doubt that guy has ever dealt with MicroCenter in person then.

So, I placed an order at Micro Center for pickup, plus a couple more items including a Core i3-2100 + MSI H61 mobo for $119.99.

Got the email for "your order is ready." In it, it said that these two CPUs are not available.

Check on the web site and still says 10+ for both.

Funny thing is the email still had the MSI H61 motherboard on it for $19.99.

Another reason not for me to shop at the Egg.
The Egg prices and service have steady gone down hill just like Fry's.
My most recent build featured 100% parts purchased from MC.

I live near a MC but I've waited a long time to see Bulldozer as my next possible build so I think I'd better resist just a little while longer.

NCIX disappointed! No price match. Oh well, had a relative pick it up at Microcenter and will ship it.

Got the 2500k at MC for $150 and managed to get a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 for $110 after $10 rebate and $40 off for bundle 😀

Total = $276.18

the bundle is still going on? Damn. maybe I shoulda drove down there.

I don't think they were suppose to give me the $40 off but the sales guy says he thought it was going on.. the girl at the online pickup desk I was checking out at looked for the ad for it and got frustrated not finding it so she just took the $40 off lol.

They told me it was still going on, but with the 2600K it was $80 off ANY Z68 mobo, but with the 2500K it was $40 off CERTAIN Z68 motherboards, and they had a list of four boards or so. I didn't want any of those boards, but strangely I ended up with that cheap MSI H61 board bundled with my 2500K for $19.99. 😵 I was trying to buy it with a Core i3 but they wouldn't sell me both CPUs (one i5, one i3) saying their "limit 1" was for ANY CPU in a one month period. So, they wouldn't sell me the i3, but left the discounted $19.99 mobo in.

I just got home a half hour ago from my drive down there. At least I got to hang out with a buddy down there too.

Damn, can you like, go pick up that bundle for me and ship it to me? 🙂 No microcenters around here...

Ended up grabbing a i7 2600k + Z68A biostar for + 8gb ram for 37x.xx - 10 dollar rebate

Not going to use the 2600k so if anyone wants it for the microcenter price + actual shipping it's available. 🙂
