My price match request from 4 hours ago is still in the "Price Verification" stage. I'm starting to feel a bit antsy.

I agree that their shipping insurance policy makes me uncomfortable. I paid the extra $2 to fully cover my order. Their practices definitely deviate from those of other online retailers.

Agreed. This is taking a while. I have a feeling they may not approve a price match. If that's the case, this will be the first and last time I ever consider NCIX.

To be fair MC deals are local only, and such loss leaders are there to get you in the door to buy stuff like memory, motherboard, etc. I can't blame NCIX for denying price match on something that is certainly limited. Not to mention MC may get kick backs from the vendor on their monthly / quarterly statements which helps or totally covers the cost of brief discounts like these, but NCIX will lose money on each item sold with little to attract you to their other items.

The thing that makes me a little dissuaded from using NCIX is their insurance on shipping items. It seems like its just a price to pay for customer service on their end. I'm sure they aren't trying to make extra money from paying for the added insurance but rather avoiding the cost themselves and passing it to the buyer.

I ordered the Coolermaster HAF 932 along with the i5, maybe that will score me some points towards the price match. If not then they can keep them both.

I would be willing to buy more from them if the i5 comes through, but not worth the effort at a comparable Newegg/Amazon price but for a longer wait at the free shipping threshold. Was worth a shot. They do say it can take 2-3 days to process, which also stinks, but not much we can do now but wait. Also probably depends how many they are looking at having to discount, if not very many it could be worth the gains in reputation as a retailer to check with for a subset of customers who otherwise never would have considered them.

Intel does channel rebates for all authorized retailers based on volume.

Bingo. I've got my fingers crossed but wouldn't be surprised or upset if they started denying these price matches. Like you said I don't even think they could make much/any money on 2500Ks sold for $150, the only reason Micro Center does it is because it can get you in the store where you may buy a motherboard, RAM, or some other stuff to go along with it.

Still waiting to hear back from them on the price match. Put in my order at 10:23 AM.

microcenter right here seems to have some 2500ks in stock. tempting. not sure what board i'd get

the GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 is bunch cheaper at MC than at newegg

processor, decent z68 board, and 8 GB 1600 for $330 /w taxes and rebate

VEERRRRRYYY tempting

Just received the email back, best offer of $189.99 which is still a good price, though $40 difference from the ridiculously hot MC price.

Heck, man, go for it!!!

You're looking at exactly what I did and what I bought, except I bought a couple of months ago with this scenario.....Fry's had a 2500k on sale at $149.99, just like the current MC special. Got my MC to pricematch, however reluctantly, the Fry's price, and the motherboard, that Gigabyte Z68-UD3H, was in the $40 off with purchase of 2500k processor and compatible mb sale back then. So I paid $$278.17 out the door and then got a $10 MIR on the board. That was a good day.

And as for the mb, so far have had not one problem with the UD3H. Has been a solid board so far.

Just went to Fry's during my lunch break (the one on Brokaw Avenue in San Jose). They price matched the $149.99.

EDIT: Be sure to print out the Microcenter page and tell them to look at the deal through google since Microcenter took it down.
