Smoking bans are worthless if not properly enforced.

It is a criminal act to smoke within 20 feet of a door or window, of any building in my uni. Yet I see people outside smoking next to doors and windows all the time, and some times the smoke leakes into the buikding. This is a violation of my person space and rights. We have this law for a reason, and people need to start following it. The police also need to enforce this law more strictly.

If I call the police station and report the crime, they won't care. But they should since a law is being broken.

A criminal act? Broken laws? Violation of your rights? Melodramatic much?

Something tells me that both you and the police have better things to worry about. And if you don't, you should.

The people of California voted to make this a criminal act less than 10 years ago. If it wasn't important to us, we wouldn't have voted over 60% for it.

I'd call the police every time I saw someone doing that if it was against the law. If they don't come to enforce it, file a complaint with the police department itself.

Maybe you should stop whining so much. If all these little things in life bother you so much, maybe you should re-examine your life and realize just how good it is.

Note how you never hear a cancer patient or surviver sweating the little sh!t?

Think about it, DVK. So you have to get a very brief whiff of smoke once in a while or hear a Christian bash atheists. The way you whine you'd think they were cutting off your damn arms or something.

Live your life and stop worrying about other people and every perceived slight. The way it stands now, the people you complain about control your life... not you. What a sad way to live.

Well it seems that the people who enforce the law are among the 40% who dont give a sh!t

You should confront the smokers directly. Maybe they'll beat some sense into you

Democracy, where 51% of the people can vote to control the other 49%'s lives

If I remember correctly over 250,000 people a year die in the U.S from second hand smoking. Not positive on this number, but I remember it being high.

I wonder how many of those are due to growing up in a household of smokers, where the smoke just sits in the air.

1 breath of smoke a day isnt going to kill you.

Like I said that 250,000 could be off. It could be under 100,000. I just remember hearing 250,000, but my memory on this could be off.

These numbers are probably stretching it as well because they are paid the big bucks (funding) to show big numbers.

"Secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths in adult."

http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=35422

Where did you get your numbers? From a cartoon?
