does anybody know if the escort has a serial interface like the V1 ?

Slickone: radar jamming is very illegal in every state unless you have a license to broadcast on that frequency...highly unlikely.

I found out the hard way.

While driving through last year I got pulled over for having one on.
The officer took the radar detector and wrote me a ticket for $130 for having one. He also wanted the power cord and cradle, which I thought was funny until I did a google search to find out Canadian police were caught selling radar detectors over the internet. He never did give me a ticket for speeding, which I was doing while trying to keep up with "all" the other cars. Apparently, speeding is OK over there, just not detectors.

lol....I should have checked Ebay to see if my radar detector was on there. It too was taken on a trip back from Toronto to Detroit. I was not speeding but had it on and was pulled over by the OPP. A few minutes later, 2 more cars pulled up as backup. All over a radar detector.

He was probably braking as they clocked him,
when i got caught last year (instant on) i was stopped on the side of the road before the cop even made the u turn
good call on the radar thing though, i gotta remeber that next time i hit up windsor

as far as justifying buying one of these, it personally saved me at least 400 bucks. I used to drive to southgate a lot (hour drive ... women related as usual) and cops would always camp out on the booney roads when i was coming back at 3 am.

One time i was on the highway already (275 north, right by romulus and the airport) going about 90 on the empty highway and i was comming up on an SUV going 70 in the leftmsot lane. I was about to change lanes to get around him and he switched to the service lane (!!). I was just like WTF and kept gaining on him. Anyway just when i was about even with the SUVs rear bumper the radar went off.

It didnt take me too long to put 2 and 2 together and i grabbed the hand brake and got it to 70 before i got in front of him. Well once i got by him he pulls back to the left lange and hang on my tails with the radar going crazy, He must've been pissed off because after about 20 secs he pulled over the semi going maybe 5 over on the rightmost lane.

SCORE!

i guess the guy thought if he gets outta my way, i'll just fly by him :)

I was going the speed limit...the reason they pulled me over was that they had a "radar detector" detector. They picked up the signal from my radar detector that was in my car.

Any cop worth a damn can spot a car with a radar in it before they actually see the unit. I won't give away any trade secrets here, but when I know a detector was used means instant biscuit. And no, hiding it won't help. Don't waste you money unless your locals cops are all rookies.

I was going to get one of these. Instead, I just carry my badge and ID with me at all times. Cheaper and more effective than a radar detector.

I have a few good friends that are PA state troopers. I'll have to ask them about that. :)

sound like an intel/amd or nvidia/ati debate in here....comeon now the v1 hasn't changed in about 12 years yet because mike valentine pays for alot of magazine space they consistantly rate them high. You knew he was associated with car and driver at one point right? The V1 is absolute crap for Ka band which is fast becoming the most popular band and the arrows are worthless. I used to own a V1 about 6 years ago in my first car and it was a great little unit but the points some of you make about those arrows are ridiculous, not only that but the detector looks like a shag on a rock....

Had a V1 also.. dumped it when a friend got me an 8500 for x-mas. I think the 8500 is better.

these things should be outlawed and anyone caught going faster than 10mph over the limit should spend a week in the crossbar hotel

Biggest differences between the X50 and the older 8500:

Up to 50% better detection range in K and KA
Selectable POP mode radar detection
Available with brilliant blue display or high-intensity red display

Still rates 1st consistently on Motor Trend, radartest and speedzones. The only real place it comes in 2nd is still Car and Driver.
