I haven't bought a handgun in over 10 years but today I changed all that. I went out and bought a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum tonight on my way home from work (I've always wanted one). Man, the BS paperwork I had to go through was staggering. Fee for this, pay for and take a complete BS test that any idiot could pass, go through some inane handgun safety procedure and on top of that I have to wait 10 days (at least it's down from the 15 day wait the last time I bought a handgun) for the background check to be completed (of course I had to actually pay for the gun tonight in full to even initiate that process). Fvck...we need more gun laws like we need more pollution.

I've owned guns now for more than 13 years. I've never used one in anger nor would I ever consider doing so. I may use one out of need for self preservation (let's hope I never need to) but never out of anger.

Yeah, and it costs about $1,100!!!

I have a Colt Officer's model (.45 ACP), a Glock model 17 (9mm), 12 gauge shotgun and a couple rifles. I really only use them a few times a year for target shooting. It is good fun.:D

I've owned various other handguns over the past 12 years but I've only kept the two I have now because I really enjoy them.

One hunting rifle (Winchester .300 Win Mag-never done anything more than armed hiking with it and pumpkin blasting at 200 yards) a Ruger 10-22 with a cheapo scope for plinking and a Mak 90 (for well...whatever-don't really know why I bought this one...it was cheap and seemed like a lot of shooting satisfaction for the money at the time-I paid $250 for it many years ago-probably around the time Clinton came into office-the gun market was really hot at that time).

sounds like you live in California. I had to go through the same thing. It's a hassle but I don't have a problem with it.

My point exactly. We don't need MORE gun laws that's for certain. Yes, I do live in California.

The way you phrased your post, it sounds like you just did this on a whim... or was it a planned purchase? :)

No, it wasn't a whim. I've almost purchased this gun a few times in the past but after firing my friends 5" .44 Mag on a recent shooting trip to the desert I started watching for a sale. I found one advertised today at Turners for $599. Normal price is $659. I bought one with a 6.5" barrel. I can hardly wait to shoot it. I still have half a box of ammo from shooting my friend's gun a couple months ago. I hit a golf ball perched on a post at about 20 paces. A .44 Magnum FMJ slug will go clean through a golf ball BTW.

No, a mak90 is similar to an AK-47 but it is semi-auto only (one shot fired for each pull of the trigger). It is one of those "evil" assault rifles that are used in 99.999% of all crimes (just kidding, in reality they are used in very very few crimes).

It's very accurate, powerful, pleasant to shoot, makes a loud boom and it is an intriguing firearm.

It would be a decent home defense weapon when loaded with .44 special rounds but I already have a couple guns that would fill that role quite nicely. I just like it. Haven't you ever purchased anything simply because you wanted it?

I have a shotgun for hunting that my old ladies dad holds on to (per my request), when i finally move out on my own i am considering buying a handgun, kinda scary though IMO.....

Dont use it in your S&W, or you will either blow it up or crack the chamber.

Yes, I know the difference between 45-70 ammo and .44 magnum. It would not fit in the S&W anyway.

Umm I was talking about the 44 mag ammo on the bottom. LOl its +p. I didn't think you were so dumb as to not know the diff between a straighwalled 45-70 and a 45 rem mag. :)

MAK90s were made by Norinco mostly (a Chineese company) and were banned from further importation due to executive order. Prices used to be $250 or so, now hover close to $400 for a used one. Ghey.

Yeah CA is the worst when it comes to their laws.

I picked up 3 handguns on Friday.

Walk in store
I want X, X, X. What's the deal?
Gives me price
OK
Sign a form saying I'm not an illegal alien
They call NICS to make sure I'm not a felon
$0 fees
Walk out with them 10 minutes later

None of that BS you have to go through. I'm in TX

There's nothing scary about them. A gun is a tool. Treat as with the proper respect, learn how to use it and you will never have a problem.

Treat every gun as if it were loaded and never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot and you'll never have a problem. Oh, always keep your gun locked up and store the ammo seperately.
