I would have thought they they would make the show with toe coverings to give the best of both worlds...
Vibram themselves do not.
But other companies use Vibram soles and make a shoe that is essentially quite similar.
New Balance Minimus Zero has a zero drop.
Merrell's Bare Access is essentially zero.
And there are a few other zero or nearly zero (oddly, according to runnersworld, the Minimus Zero has a 2mm drop... and the one VFF has a -2mm drop. A negative drop? That sounds... odd. Their measuring points may be different, and real-world drop versus their measuring points could make for a difference in feel).
As for the Nike Free that was mentioned earlier, a 6mm drop is quite low to someone used to 12mm+ drops, and a good transitioning point to adjust with form I reckon... but it's nowhere near the same feel as no drop. No drop will punish bad form - a little padding with some drop will give you a little leeway, for starters. Plus, it just have the complete "barefoot" feel due to the slight rise - which is very noticeable once you've tried on a shoe with no drop. Or.. compared barefoot to the Free.
I still run with a shoe that has a 10 or 11mm drop, which is few mm lower than my previous shoes which were treating me well. Eventually I'll take a stab at minimalist shoes.
