Sleeping less?

On a regular day, I go to bed at about 1-2am, and wake up at 7am for class everyday (UGH). So I come home at about 10, and doze off at around 3pm normally for about an hour. Then on Friday, where I have no class, I sleep until about 10:30pm, and the same goes with Saturday and Sunday as well. So I'm wondering if there's a way to train your body into requiring less sleep? I mean I know of some people that sleep 6 hours a day and are totally fine with it, while I need at least 8, often 9 on average. Is it just natural, or is there anyway I can control it?

I figure I'd be a whole lot more productive with an extra 2-3 hours a day.

Or, would it be healthy to sleep 6 hours a day, get on lots of caffeine, and "catch up" on the weekends? I currently use no method of caffeine, aside from cola, which is unintentional of course, but figure it could help. I do hate the taste of coffee though, although not as much as I did maybe 3-4 years ago--perhaps I could get used to it?

Don't lower your standards to that filthy brown muck.

I've found that I sleep more if I have nothing to do or if what I will be doing in the morning will be boring. Back in my high school days I found it really hard to get up because I hated it. Then when I did my Architecture course I got up at 6am most mornings and was always wide awke for the day because I loved it. Especially when doing 3D modelling work. It's all in the mind. Find something interesting to do and sleep will no longer be a problem.

If I remember correctly, you don't have a job at the moment? Me neither. :(

Oh I see what you mean. Your skill on playing on words is quite amazing :)

I see your point. Often when a big event popped up I couldn't sleep at all the previous night, but I was wide awake.

I'm often more a night person too, my mind is clearest and my mental abilities work at their best during the wee hours of the morning--or perhaps it was just the pressure to finish something since I had waited to the last minute to finish it.

Hmm, now what can I find to wake me up every morning..

Check out caffeinated peppermints. No sugar, & each tin (think altoids tin) has the caffeine equivalent of 25 cans of soda. They do have calories, but not NEARLY as much as pop does.

12 tins is $25 if you order from them.
