It sounds like you are fine on the amount you are getting. Are you loading yourself on caffeine during the day?

I used to get by with 6 or so hours when I was in my 20s. Now, in my late-30s, I need 8 hours a night to properly function.

Tiles:

I am an admitted "coffee-addict :) ", but that has only happened in the last 8 years (I am 33) - my sleep patterns were established long before (when I thought coffee tasted like "liquid ash-tray" )

Perhaps in a few years when the dreaded 40s approach, my body will tell me that more sleep will be necessary.

actually it is the opposite. the older you get the less sleep you need.

up until late 20's we will keep building body mass. after mid 30's or so our bodies start to break down. we don't regenerate as much. we require less sleep.

i've always had terrible sleep patterns. lately i get about 4 hrs a night.

for me, it isn't the number of hours but the quality of the hours that makes a difference. if you stick to a schedule same time to bed same time up every morning you will find that your body will feel better even on the same number of irregular hours.

5-7 hours weekdays.
11-15 hours weekends.

Always tired. It also seems I'm backwards from you people, on weekdays I'm dead and can't function in the morning but I'm fine in the afternoon.

By evening I'm fine and never get to sleep until late.

About 4 hours a night here. I'm fine as long as I get 3. Anything beyond that though and I have problems. Weird thing is there seems to be no ties between how long I sleep and how good I feel. I can be tired after 8 hours sleep and feel great after 4 hours. Go figure...

I get about 6.5hrs of sleep per night on weekdays, 10 on weekends. I'd like to get more sleep, but I usually end up getting that much nevertheless.

I have almost the same exact problem man. I go to sleep around 12 or 1am and wake up at 7am for school. That's about 6 hours of sleep, 7 if I'm lucky. When I wake up, I feel like sh1t. However, after getting ready and hopping into my car...I feel almost totally awake.

Now on the weekends, I get like 10 hours of sleep. When I wake up, I feel like a zombie for the rest of the day though.

I do not eat breakfast on weekdays. I wake up too late on weekends to catch breakfast, but I do catch lunch. Even after lunch, I feel like a zombie. I do not exercise (a bad habit that I need to change). I do not drink coffee.

lately been getting 5-7 hours/night, which isn't enough for me...even then, 10 hours/night doesn't make me all that rested either :\

When i was in high school and college I didn?t need more then 4-5 hours sleep a night.

After college i started sleeping more. About 5-8 hours a night.

But NOW that i have an 8 month old daughter my amount of sleep is down to around 5 hours a night. But that?s ok im so ugly I don?t need any beauty sleep.

Also, if you snore, get that problem fixed ASAP! People that snore can get 8 hours of sleep and in reality are only getting about the equivalent of two hours, possibly less! That is very bad!

Lately I've been going to bed 9-10pm and getting up 6-8am. Pretty lousy for me. I've been having trouble getting quality rest lately, for some reason.

It used to be 9-10pm and 5am. :(

Sometimes I will sleep over 7 hours (on weekends or my days off) but that often results in my feeling tired and "zombie-like" all day (especially if I woke up and then decided to roll over and go back to sleep because I didn't need to get up for work). I hear that "experts" say the 8 hour benchmark is crucial to good health, but My body seems to be tuned for much less.

How about all you ATOTers??? How many hours is your "optimal sleep time"?

O.K. - I just created a poll for this topic (I would have simply changed this thread into a poll, but it appears that I cannot do that or I am too lazy/ignorant to figure out how ;) )

one MW, about 5 hrs. On Sun,M,T,TH,F,S, aboout 10 hrs.

I get maybe 5-6 hours on the weekday when I have to wake up at 5:30am. But on the Weekends I get about an hour more unless I wake up eariler. This week is Spring Break, so I'm sleeping about 10-12 hours a day. Goto bed around 10pm wake up around 10am. But I notice that if I sleep more than 12 hours I feel like I've wasted my day sleeping.
