Its not a myth. A report in the Wall Street Journal said that some Energy companies noted a sharp rise in energy/utility usage in the early morning and late night compared with prior years, suggesting that Americans are waking up earlier and going to bed late.

This professor has as much of an agenda as anyone else.

wtf, you don't need sleeping pills, the problem is A) not being lazy and B) going to sleep at a reasonable time

Well, there you have it folks - everybody who's ever had trouble sleeping is just lazy or not going to bed at the proper time.
Thank you Dr. Science

..works for awhile then you get a rebound effect. It'll make ya tired but you won't be able to sleep.

I agree with Amused on this one, anything this guy says is highly suspect. That said, I'm sure too many people do resort to pills -- not just for sleep but for just about anything -- than is needed. Sleeping pills are definitely useful for certain contexts, but people resort to them and avoid dealing with underlying factors that cause sleep problems.

I feel the same way. I guess since we do so little physical activity compared to a few hundred years ago, that a 24 hour day is just not long enough for us to get tired. I never feel tired at my normal bed time, but i go to bed anyway because i know if i don't it'll be hell getting up in the morning. 10 hours seems like a much more natural amount of time for me to sleep than 8 or less.

The best way to make a name for yourselve these days is to say that something is a myth. Even better if it's something with medical or scientific consensus behind it.
