Maybe, which leads me to my second correction. It is giants I had the problem with, the big guys who have the two woolly mammoths. I found them more difficult than dragons.

LOL Doppel.... We spoke about this... Drunk posting can get you in trouble.... Rememeber?

That perk you took only made *novice* Illusion spells cost half as much, not all Illusion spells. I'm not sure, because I never use it, but that probably means Fear is not a novice spell.

Thank you for the reply. You hit it RIGHT on the head.
REALLY tweaked my cookies to put the last 3 level ups into Magika.

But.... Going to school tonight! I am there!

Anyone still playing this? Saw it was $39.99 on Amazon so I went ahead and ordered it. Hoping it will be here by the end of the week!

300 hours of gameplay? If so lets play this game.
Maybe if you're stuck in a room and literally nothing else to do you could find 300 hours to kill in here, but that's what it would be doing, killing time only.

The game is certainly worth the $40 on Amazon. I'd urge picking it up for that.

That said, now that it's been even further since I played the game I am left with an impression that I enjoyed the 50 or so hours but what takes a great deal of my memory is that the story line was too small for the world; my character never developed very far, even with doing side quests, before the game ended, and combat mechanics were weak. Overlooking these it's still a highly recommended game. I absolutely prefer the world of Fallout, though. As I get older I'm so tired of the fantasy genre, it's just a mish mash of nonsense. Sci fi still seems fresh.

Fallout 3 is still on my list to play. I've actually got it but am going to play Skyrim first (long story). The small amount I played of Fallout was pretty cool though. To be honest I never could get into Oblivion so I'm hoping my initial impression of Skyrim is more in line with what I felt with Fallout.

Hmmmm, I am still playing. But my gaming time is limited. Maybe 8 hours a week. MUCH LESS THIS MONTH. My son and his family moved in while his house is being renovated. ANYONE HAVE A SPARE TV as I will be moving to the garage soon.

This MAY be a hijack. But I am FULLY enjoying Skyrim. I loved the early Fallouts....

3 didnt grab me. ALL FRUSTRATION. Was I playing wrong? I'd get OWNED early and often while I have 3 stinkin bullets in a rickety gun and a club. I have seen a LOT of "Man, Skyrim is GREAT but its no F3".
Any tips on Fallout 3...... PLEASE feel free. Even if you PM me.

**** I have F3 on my PC. So to keep in line, maybe you should PM me.

I liked new Vegas way way more than 3 for some reason. I am having a lot of fun with skyrim tho.

Anyone know a good way to level up heavy armor?

The most obvious question is are you using VATS? Skilled with the weapon you are using? Maybe turn down the difficulty until you are comfortable with the game's mechanics. Also, you don't have to fight, just run away to find ammo or equipment and come back later if it's an interior area.

So I'm not completely off topic: I put about 8 hours into Skyrim before a bug stopped me cold 3 months ago. Maybe it's been patched by now, would love to get back to it after ME3.

Thanks... I may give F3 another looksie. PS Yup... Using VATS.

What bug stopped you in Skyrim? I had the Priest Bug (Some Dream mission in a town) and there was NO XBOX or PS3 fix. Plenty of PC fixes. Bring up the command console type BLAH BLAH BLAH....
Nothing for Xbox. Reloads, going back a few reloads. NOTHING.
So what did I do? BEAT him till he took a knee. It appears he either drops the key or gives it to me.
My bug was he stopped halfway up the stairs.

I finally fired this up last night and have a bad feeling I'm going to end up getting nowhere because I'm never going to be able to decide what class I want to be. Right now I'm 2H Warrior but part of me wants to be a stealthy rogue type class (and I'm sure eventually I'll become interested more interested in magicka). Paralysis from the start! I'm thinking I'll just dive in 2H and see if I hate it or not. If so then maybe I'll go down the archery path. I did already select warrior at that first stone but does that really lock me into anything? I guess I'm just kind of wondering if there is a point of no return.

No, you can change the stones whenever you want. 2H IMO is not as fun as 1H or Mage, and I just made an archery guy. The archery guy is tons of fun!

I decided to go the Wood Elf Archer route. I'm about 6 hours in, one dragon is dead, a few dungeons cleared, this game is so much fun.

What's the best way to get better weapons/armor? I'm level 6 or 7 now and still using the same bow I've had since level 3 or so.

Build up your smithing skill, unlock Dwarven Smithing, then head to Markarth. You can unlock some pretty nice weapons and armour without much effort and the raw materials for Dwarven metal are abundant.

My character is a heavy archer

I paired my archer with smithing/enchanting and I can say this character might be the strongest in the whole game. At level 35 I have 100 smithing, 85 enchanting, and about 70 archery.

Smith yourself some dragon armor / ebony or daedric weapons
Enchant any gloves/ring/neck/chest with +23% smithing.
Equip those items temporarily for smithing.
Use a blacksmith's philter for +40% smithing.
Improve all your items before the 30s philter wears off.
Enchant your head/gloves and a ring/necklace with +37% damage to bows. This is a stackable effect. So you get +148% damage to bows. This also stacks with the +% archery perk.
Enchant your weapon with +fire or +frost damage. Eventually when I hit 100 enchanting I'll use the 2x enchant perk to put both on the weapon.

I've had to turn the game difficulty up to master to make the game harder, and even now I still feel overpowered. And I'm still working on maxing the archery damage perks and getting the 3x sneak attack damage. It's a really, really, ridiculously fun and strong build.

Here's a little thread necro rather than starting a new one...

Just "finished" Skyrim (main quest line) and have to say that was a great experience. I did the Companions line, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood as well. I know there is more to do but decided it was time to finish and move on to something else. This was the first Bethesda game I've played and enjoyed (tried Morrowind and Oblvion and just couldn't get into it) and I have to say this was definitely one of the best console games I've ever played.

With that said, I'm considering Fallout 3 next. Is it pretty much the same other than having a different setting? I may do Mass Effect 3 in between but Fallout is definitely on the radar now.

Yeah, pretty much. It has a bit of a different feel to it, but it's basically the same. Looking back, I think I enjoyed 3 more than New Vegas just a tiny bit, but to me, the dlc for 3 was much better overall. But yeah, if you liked Oblivion or Skyrim, or the only reason you didn't was because of the magic/swords and shields, you should love Fallout.

And just a reminder, the Dawnguard dlc is out today for Skyrim! I'm downloading it now.

Guys I just put up a new interview with Matt Carofano, the Lead Artist on Skyrim, to talk about many things including; Dawnguard, the next-generation of consoles, what's after Skyrim for Bethesda Game Studios, loot, Vampire Lords, future iteration of the Creation engine, The Elder Scrolls MMO, armored Trolls, and why you cannot change your sex or race in Skyrim.

<Snip!>

This is one I was asked to pass on to you from several fans: How much loot, or rather, how much additional stuff is being added to the game?
Well there's the full set of Dragon Bone weapons. <Thinks> We give you a lot of gear on the Dawnguard side. That helps balance out the Vampire Lord’s abilities. The Dawnguard stuff has; new light and heavy armor, new weapons, you can have a new type of dog companion, [and] an armored troll to come fight with you. On the Vampire Lord side you have a whole new perk tree and we also added a whole new perk tree for Werewolves too. That's another feature we added to the game even though it's not part of the [Dawnguard] story. We wanted to make the Werewolves more interesting, more playable for higher levels, so we expanded on that. There's a lot of stuff in the game.

Did I see a new mount in the Dawnguard trailer?
Yes! So in the realm of Soul Cairn--the realm of trapped souls--you can get a miscellaneous quest to find the Skull of Arvak. He’s this lost horse who's been taken over, turned undead in this realm. So if you find his skull you can ride him all around and even back in Tamriel.
