I disliked Oblivion and never gave Skyrim a look when it came out. My brother picked it up last week with some Christmas giftcards and I went over to check it out. Looked pretty much awesome so I bought it earlier this week. Up to level 7 with a High Elf and am enjoying it so far.

With the amount of stuff you can do in this game, it really feels like a single-player MMO.

Are dragons random?

There are two types random and what I will call mapped dragons(appear as discovery point on maps)

It appears though that the random ones seem to become more frequent the higher level you go.

Also their are dragons that appear in the distance and never actually attack you.

i've lost shadowmere somehow. i traveled to an imperial camp, accidently hopped on someone else's horse, got off, went about my merry way to the next location, and noticed that shadowmere wasn't around anymore. i tried fast traveling back to a bunch of different locations and only this new horse followed me. i even killed the new horse and traveled again thinking that SM would just show up. unfortunately this didn't happen.

where does SM go if you accidently dismiss it?

I never could get into Oblivion either. I was skeptical about it, but I saw it for $40 on sale so I couldn't pass it up. Skyrim feels like more of the same. Not quite as good as Fallout IMO. I'm level 6 so far playing as an Imperial. I'm finding it a bit slow to get into.

level 22. I've been practically sleepwalking through the dragon fights, I guess it gets harder then...

Huh...well. Beats me. I know that blood, elder and ancient dragons at least put up some fight (lvl 40+, I don't remember off hand). I can sneak one-shot arrow kill a mammoth.

I'm using a 2H nord warrior with heavy armor. I usually have a buddy with me. I've only been killed once by an obnoxious fire breather.

really your heavy armor is enough to stop the flames/cold? That I'm surprised about. I had a full Daedric armor set and got smoked almost instantly before I equipped some other items.

so I guess there is a known glitch with the markarth guards constnatly harrassing you and not letting you goto jail.

So I killed every last guard in the markarth city. Then went out side the city walls and killed every guard there. Then I entered the keep and killed every guard inside there.

With every guard in the reach killed I have a 30k+ bounty and no one to enforce it. Is this going to bite me in the ass later on? The jarl doesn't seem to care as I fled for a few day and went back and chatted him up with no ill effects.

The thalmor are noticeably pissed at me now though and have sent random execution squads after me. I don't know if that is directly related.

My game is starting to crash a lot. I'm 140 hours in and playing on the Xbox 360. I have the latest patch (I can only assume, since I'm always signed into Xbox Live).

When my game crashes it will freeze the image and the audio will cut out. I've noticed that the frame rate is rather poor (stuttering when I do any fast movements) and my save file is getting large (~11-12 MB).

Anyone know what makes the game get really crashy? Better yet: anyone know how to fix it?

It's probably related to the size of the save file. People have reported similar issues on PC with save files around that size or larger. The 1.4 Patch hasn't been released yet (it's in beta on the PC anyway), so maybe it will address that issue. How many individual save games do you have in your profile? You might try deleting some and see if that shrinks the size of the overall save file and fixes the crashing.

I did have a LOT of save files, but I deleted most of them without any improvement in the crashing.

What causes each save file to become larger as the game goes on (my first saves were ~4 MB each, but now they're ~12 MB each)?

Any little change you make to the game world needs to be recorded. Every bucket you knock over adds a tiny bit to that.

SM will wait where you left it.

Unless he died. Haha.

Shadowmere thought he would fast travel with me even when I wasn't riding him. Well, an ancient dragon decided he didn't like Shadowmere cheap shotting him while we were fighting, so he grabbed him, shook him to death and threw him into a nearby lake.

I thought shadowmere will respawn a few days later in the spot where he was killed.

Honestly, he might. I have no clue. I hope he doesn't because I have no use for him and he wouldn't quit following me.
