I'm with you in that I hate the ever-encroaching concept of DLC, but when a game at release has upwards of 100 hours of content on one playthrough, I don't see much to complain about.

Well Bethesda DID kind of invent the trend of crap, no-content, lazy DLC

The anti-Skyrim posts in here are so STAGGERINGLY ignorant that it's almost comical.

Uh...I don't think ignorant is the right word.

Bitter? Maybe. Ignorant? I don't think so. They speak mostly truth.

Oblivion 1.5

Same world, same NPCs, worse story, bad combat. It is just a large pretty world, with nothing interesting to do in it. Dragon fights are a joke, quest are all cookie cutter and repetitive, scaling enemies are dumb, etc. Oblivion is a 94 on metacritic and was GOTY in 2006, now we look back at it with scorn. I see a pattern here with these games.

I'm level 21 now, still trying to find the game that everyone is raving about.

Better world, same NPCs, better story (still not great), better combat (still bad).

There are some few interesting quests, but there are a lot of cookie cutter ones.

I'd say it's GOTY for me as well.

As far as stability, I've had 1 crash in 131 hours of play.

I call BS, unless you game at like 1 hour a time, or maybe don't quicksave ever.

I started with no crashes, but they kepe getitng more frequent as I play more. I am at 1 per game session about now.

When awards are given to obviously undeserving titles, it cheapens the award for all future titles that did deserve accolades.

I think any kind of video game industry rewards sit somewhere below the Grammys in terms of legitimacy.

well, that's because their games are already packed with content. You don't really need any of their DLC to get a complete experience. If you've thoroughly enjoyed 100 hours or so of it, then maybe forking over 5 or 10 bucks for a little more, however insubstantial the content, would make more sense?

It's the assholes that took that idea and decided to release incomplete games and gauge you on pricing to overcharge for that missing content.

He's getting all worked up b/c ToR release is imminent. He needs to get the rage out before hunkering down in his MMO cave for the next month or so--then he'll crawl out screaming "ToR GOTY screw all you haters who think otherwise!"

I play on the console, so that means nothing to me and I wasn't referencing it in my initial post either.

Worse version how? Oh wait, it isn't. Same game? What's even the fucking basis for a RETARDED statement such as this? The entire game is set on a completely different looking and laid out world, AND the engine has been updated. The only thing that's "the same" is the overall feel of the game, because it's Bethesda. So yeah. IGNORANT. Play the game or stFu and ignore it like I do Madden every year.

On my 160 hour save I have frozen twice. That's it. And my very first Skyrim gaming session was 18 hours long, COMPLETELY UNINTERRUPTED.

Based on how many billions of different interactions everything can have with everything I would be absolutely shocked if games like this are EVER bug free.

And for the record, I've had three freezes during my ~50 hour Dark Souls game, and that matters in that game. This is the least buggy release Bethesda has had (inb4 herp derp that's not saying much lolololol), and I can't wait to play for another 200 hours or so.

Ok so by your own accord you haven't EVEN TRIED it on PC..

go back to the console kiddy area... let the big boys talk here..

the conversation is PC GOTY.. not what POS console this got GOTY on..

everything I said is 100% true for the PC version..

the truth is Spike was bought and paid for..
that's all there is to it.

actually TOR is already 500x the RPG this POS is.. note I didnt say MMO.. I said RPG.

and TOR should have at least been mentioned in the most anticipated category of the awards as it does have more pre-orders than all the other candidates combined.

And with this post, I'm done. Grow up, child. It's ironic that I'm probably older than you.

doubtful.. so sick of the consoles destroying gaming.. and yes I'm bitter having been a part of the PC generation.. when it took 200 different boot disks to play different games..
but in those days the games pushed hardware.. and the gamers pushed the devs for MORE and BETTER not the same crap over and over..

today's Console gamers and consumers in general are stupid fucking people that accept the same shit served to them over and over and over again with a new version attached to it..

or they try to be different but end up dumbing the game down so even special ed kids could play it.. ( hello WoW I'm looking at you)

I'm sick of crap like COD.. and Iphones.. and Maddens.. and Fallouts and everything else that just is more of the same crap milking the consumer for another 60 bucks..

Skyrim is the most fun I've had gaming in a loooong time. Yep, it has it's problems, some due to the massiveness of the game itself, some just poor decisions by Bethesda (UI/inventory/scaling loot...could have been done much better). Overall though, what a great time! Most games I've tried over the past few months or years bore me within a few days. Skyrim will keep me playing through the winter for sure, despite the problems. I'm happy to see them getting the positive recognition they deserve.

Meh I just can't agree with it, while I like Skyrim and I'm enjoying it the combat is just too weak and boring for it to be GOTY for me.

I like to know how they define "game of the year" because Skyrim is lacking in so many areas, nothing there that makes it so special, having said that I still play Skyrim(until ToR arrives) since its a fair game and you can get many hours of gameplay.

So far nobody here has even stated why it should be "game of the year" guess they can't think of anything that stands out either :p

what a preposterous basis for argument. Unless, you agree that such awards are a scam.

I think that for every one of you that loathes skyrim, there's probably an equal number of those that find the same unimaginative mundanity and re-hashed, re-skinned content in ToR.

It's almost like some people get offended if you dare to like a popular game

Well, I love Skyrim and it will fully deserve GOTY for me. My only complaint would be to fix the damn UI which is shit. Especially the perk part of it. I'm sure someone will mod that soon.

My picks

Game of the Year:

Skyrim

Runners Up:

The Witcher 2
Deus Ex: HR

Most Overrated:

La Noire (but it is still decent)

Biggest Disappointment:

Mafia 2 (was that this year??)

Worst Expansion:

Pirates of the Flying Fortress (Two Worlds 2). Seriously, there's like ten NPC's in it. No new towns or anything. Lame quests too.

Did you know that there's a multi-quote button right next to the quote button that works perfectly fine?

Yeah, sorry about that. I normally don't respond to threads much. So I scroll up from the bottom, reading responses, and when I find one I just immediately reply. Then I go back to scrolling. I just happened to keep finding posts I wanted to respond too and kept immediately replying, too lazy to read the whole thread first and then reply to all.

I used multi-quote this time though. Happy? ;)

Nope. (explained below)

You play on console? Then you can't comment on the buggyness of the PC version or the consolized menu, obviously. So yes, they have valid complaints. They just don't apply to you, since you are coming from console gaming.

Oh god no. Down with TOR.

I had two crashes of Skyrim over 50 hours of play and that was on the first day. Since then, I have played 6 hours straight on many occasions on both my laptop and desktop and not had a crash or other bug. Not sure why you have so many crashes.

weird ppl get crashes so much.

I had less than 5 crashes on hundreds of hours of plays. And not playing "sandbox" rpg since fallout made this more refreshing for me.

I guess mechanics are the same as before, but it always has been. And for those that thinks it looks same as oblivion needs their eyes checked.
