I dunno, I don't think I had more fun with a PC title this year than Portal 2. It's a fantastic game all the way around.
 
Just like all awards and award shows, they do not really matter to the consumer. Why does anyone really care who won when we can buy and enjoy multiple games? I enjoy Skyrim and if it was the 100th best game of 2011 or the 1st, it just matters that I'm having fun.

it was garbage.. more of the same BS game that was the first one..

trash. with a halfassed coop put on top of mediocre game.
another game that has been influenced by the consolization of the entire video game industry..
 
The game is enormous. 45 hours into it and I have barely even touched the guild quests, the main quest, or visited half the cities. Massive amount of content.

GOTY for me. I love this game. Best game in years. I enjoyed Witcher 2 and DE:HR but I love this game even more.
 
5.5 years for an Oblivion 2.0 with better art? Not impressed at all, "GOTY" or not. Dark Souls make it look like garbage.
 
It definetly earned GOTY for me, everyone loves to complain about the bugs. But really, everyone is still playing it. 🙄

The Witcher 2 was just as buggy as Skyrim for me, and after I beat Witcher 2 I didn't feel the need to play it again.

:thumbsup: this game is pure fun. I finish at least 1-2 missions everyday. It's like they took the GTA formula, removed everything I considered 'un-fun', and replaced it with a fun and wacky alternative.

Got stuck in the water/river? Press 'E' to teleport to shore instead of swimming and breaking your momentum.

Died at the end of a mission? You can reload a recent checkpoints instead of having to restart the whole mission and drive across the whole map like you did in GTA.

Got caught by police? They won't take away your weapons 🙂

etc etc etc

Though personally, I think the Witcher 2 deserves GOTY, especially after 2.0. Skyrim would be a worthy contender a year from now, once all the DLC is out and the bugs got ironed out.

Nope, totally not a beta at all.

Not inside that list are:

1. Quicksave first, then buying a merchant stock. Quickloading that save results in the same cleared stock even though you never bought the items in the previous save.

2. Quicksave after buying a merchant stock then killing the merchant. Merchant stock replenishes after quickload.

I believe this is first major game ever where quicksave/load can affect the next save state. Just how awesome is that!

Oblivion 1.5

Same world, same NPCs, worse story, bad combat. It is just a large pretty world, with nothing interesting to do in it. Dragon fights are a joke, quest are all cookie cutter and repetitive, scaling enemies are dumb, etc. Oblivion is a 94 on metacritic and was GOTY in 2006, now we look back at it with scorn. I see a pattern here with these games.

I'm level 21 now, still trying to find the game that everyone is raving about.

Really though, I have never once cared for or saw the significance in these awards. The GOTY is entirely a matter of personal opinion. Why does anyone care what one specific group thinks is the best game? Does that in any way affect your own opinion on the game (or the game you think is actually the GOTY)? 😕
