You don't "finish" Elder Scrolls games. A character just slowly fades from your interest after you've explored most everything and done most quests. I've put up to 300 hours on a character before starting a new one.

I keep replaying Oblivion with a different race, class and birthsign for a varied challenge. Currently playing a sneaky marksman Bosmer for the first time.:sneaky:

got maybe a quarter or halfway through Oblivion. Hated the leveling system too much to even bother with a mod to fix it.

Confirmed : no Gamebryo.

Considering the situation with ID/Bethesda, and the timing, it's 99.9999% ID Tech 5.

On Topic : I finished Oblivion with and without mods :D
I also heard it's not tech 5, apparently because it's not well suited to an open world game.

Like Rage?

I think you're confusing ID v4 to ID Tech 5. One of the prime directives for ID5 is large open-world environments such as the Rage universe.

"You don't even have to worry about how it's going to look on PS3 or 360. Right now we've got it running cross-platform running 60 hertz, and it looks really good," Cloud said. "In terms of what artists are available to achieve--it's something you have to see for yourself. I can say this, but you still won't get it until you see it."

"Because of the universal texturing everything in the world can be uniquely textured, and it's a look you just can't get in any other game. Once you see it you go 'shit, I have not seen that anywhere else.' We're really proud of what we've put together there."

Revealed last June, id Tech 5 is the latest update to the studio's in-house graphics engine. The studio plans to make use of the new engine in its upcoming open-world shooter Rage (PC, PS3, X360).

^^ So the engine is already geared up for multi-platform and is apparently good at giant continuous outdoor environments (if what we're told about Rage is true, I have no reason to doubt ID).

I'm not, and Rage isn't exactly open world in the scale of an Elder Scrolls game.

Well, as long as the field of view and redraw is on par or better as Gamebryo, it's pretty likely they'll use it. Game engines don't grow on trees, and starting fresh wouldn't make sense.

If you need it spelled out a little more clearly :

"ID Tech 5 will only be licensed to Bethesda"

"Bethesda's development arm, of course, is behind the RPG series The Elder Scrolls and, more recently, Fallout 3--sprawling open-world games which could well benefit from the large and unique worlds that id Tech 5 is built to enable. "

It doesn't get much clearer than that.

Unless you have a credible link saying that ID5 is not capable of large-world games.

Ran through the Morrowind Main Quest two or three times, and finished up Tribunal once. Never finished Bloodmoon due to botched saves. Continued to play Morrowind for around three years, with mods and such.

Finished Oblivion in about 6 weeks, but only because I was stubborn. Promptly deleted it. Just recently put it back on to play Nehrim.

And for Martimus and anyone else, this probably has everything you'd need to start a 'Return to Morrowind' ...

I put waaaaaay too much time into Morrowind before realizing that I was putting waaaaaaay too much time in this fucking monstrosity of micromanagement and detail hell.

and by too much time, I mean like 15 hours, maybe.

That's why you don't have a wind up watch too, right? ;)

The funny thing about every Elder Scrolls game is you actually dont have to micromanage much at all, if you dont want to. People get caught up in it cuz they are able to. Fallout 3 was the same way. Though I admit the repair system was needlessly complicated for a video game.

I finished Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion. I also put about 350 hours into my save game on Morrowind. I think I completed 100% of everything possible in that game, not to mention kills every NPC.

Morrowind was an epic game, I only wish so much of the world wasn't covered in ash (I get that's the setting where the game takes place, but still). I'm tempted to start a new character, but I know I'll spend several hours alone just combing through the thousands of mods to use.

Well at least I always know which one to start with... Cliff Racer Exterminator! :awe:

I finished the main storyline of Oblivion. Since some people say it was so good, I tried to get into Morrowind, but never could get past the first couple of hours.

It gets better after the first few hours when you learn walking skills and can move faster than 1/2mph.

Personally, I am hoping I can't rise to the top of the mages guild without any mage skills. Sure, it was tedious to climb to ranks in the guilds in Morrowind, but at least it made sense. Not an amazingly skilled thief? Sorry, can't rank up in the thieves guild.

Source is right here, not about the engines capabilities, but they aren't using it. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1139813p1.html

put alot of hours in morrowind until I killed that crazy warrior on top of some mountain and started killing guards and selling their armor. I got filthy rich and I lost interest.

Not as much time in Oblivion but I also lost interest after awhile.

Finished Oblivion with at least 100 hours sunk into it. Stopped in Morrowind around 1/2 through the Nerevarine story, didn't get very far in Tribunal or Bloodmoon. My save game is buried somewhere. Between the Boots of Blinding Speed and vampirism I remember sprinting across most of Vvarfendell overnight.

Actually you can have fun faster than that if you cheat as soon as you start a new game. Use the console to set Speed to 100.
Its not cheating. It has no real tactical advantage but it lets you complete the boring parts of the game faster.

I do it in both Elder Scrolls 3 and 4. I also use mods to change my weight limits to tens of thousands of pound. Same deal. I hate running back and forth to town to unload my gear. Thats just silly.

I have finished both Morrowind and Oblivion with all official expansion packs.

I'm currently playing the Nehrim mod for Oblivion(level 18 at the moment).

I played Morrowind and Oblivion alot, Morrowind more, but I only finished Oblivion once. Both games are great to enjoy the various areas and cities. Loved the diversity of Morrowind and loved the beauty of Oblivion.
Levelscaling drives me mad eventually in those games, there just does not seem to be any point for the normal RPG stuff, you know, to make your char super-leet, get mad monies and buy crazy stuff so you can kill those mad treasure holding dragons at an even earlier level the next playthrough. Tried all kinds of mods, no help.
All this open world and yet everything so restricted, I just prefer open world the Fallout 1/2 or Might and Magic way.
I will probably play Oblivion again, walking through the pretty cities is a good feeling and the quests are well done, most of em anyway.
