Skunk staying under house at night

We've seen raccoons and skunks wander around our backyard every now and then, which has been happening for the past couple of weeks. During the night, some sort of critter that we clearly don't want under the house manages to get under there. After blocking off common passage ways to gain entry under the house, it still manages to get down there. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get it out from under there?

Drug it!!! Then uhh... watch it drown in the pool? 🙂...

Man that thread made an uproar after the OP of that thread got reported.

Shoot it.

If no, get a big tank of CO2 and vent it all into your crawlspace where it is. It will suffocate in its sleep.

yeah so you can crawl around in your crawlspace after with an oxygen mask trying to find that dead skunk before it really stinks?

Paintbal gun perhaps?

Wont kill the thing, but the sound of the gun going off, plus the sting of the ball hitting it , im sure the animal will get the message real quick.

You can trap and destroy them if you own a firearm, or you can just call some form of animal conrol if you live in a semi-urban area.

I have some experience with skunks. Here are your options:

1) Headshot: .22 is sufficient. If you hit the brain, the skunk won't spray. You can bait the skunk out at night with bacon.

2) Trap and drown: This is probably the best option. Rent or borrow a box trap like this one:

http://www.safeguardproducts.com/

Some city animal control departments will loan you one.

Bait it with bacon. Set it a night. Once the skunk is inside, wait til daylight, then walk up slowly and throw a blanket over the whole trap. The skunk won't spray. Then carry the whole thing to somewhere with water deep enough to cover the whole thing. This is the tricky part; you can't stand the trap on end (it'll open) so a trashcan is out. If you have a lake or pond close, you're all set. Otherwise, the bathtub might work. Check to make sure the trap fits before capturing the skunk!

3) Mothballs or bleach: You may be able to convince the skunk to voluntarily move if you put mothballs or bleach in his burrow.

Good luck.

I agree with most of it besides the drowning part, just throw the cage (gently) into the back of a truck with something to keep it from sliding around (and dislodging the blanket/cover/carboard box) and drive it to a wooded area over 5 miles away, pop the door and walk away holding the blanket....sit down and have a

Also, I found that a can of catfood works 60% of the time , every time

They do spray if you shoot them in the head. Im 100% positive, its a body reflex. I know from experience.

While at summer camp two years ago we had major problems with skunks running around. We put a bag of moth balls around our tents and the next morning they were gone. The following day we spotted a skunk actually eating the moth balls. Later when the game commission came the officer said that some skunks are actually attracted to them. In fact sometimes they place moth balls in the traps to catch them.

I had the same problem a few years back, I waited until late at night when they left to go do their nocturnal scavenging thing then blocked the entrance with moth balls. Problem solved

Don't think I saw that one...link or brief description of original thread?

I believe it predates your arrival here, and I can't rememeber the title. I know the word skunk doesn't show up, so it's hard to seach for. I'll see what I can do.
