I guess technically our treaty isn't in effect anymore. ;) Skoorb is the one that needs help though hehe. I'll help though. The secret is to pack up all of his games first and then drink all his beer. With nothing to do, he'll start loading boxes. :)

Welcome to Birmingham! I'm sure you'll like it here. I've been living here all 26 years of my life (minus the years I spent in college) and I love it.

I think Birmingham's motto ought to be, "It's a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit there." In other words, it's not the most exciting town from a tourist standpoint, but just a great city all-around for your day-to-day living. It has all the convienence and services of much larger metropolitan areas without quite as much fuss. Like Millenium's already said, Southside is the place to go if you're looking for clubs and bars. The 280 corridor is the best place for restaurants. And Hoover and Vestavia should have all the shopping and general stuff you could ever possibly need. Downtown is actually shrinking (has been for the last 40 years or so.) Most people are moving outside the main city to the outlying areas so there's not much to see/do there. There's still plenty of major corporations downtown though (it's quietly a big banking city.)

Where in Hoover are you going to be living (without being too specific if you don't want)? A house? An apartment? I grew up in Northern Shelby county (now technically considered part of Hoover), but now I have my own house a bit farther south in Pelham.

Have fun packing. :p I hopefully won't be doing that again any time soon.

Thanks for the info!
We have a two bedroom apartment in Hoover...just off of Highway 31 by the golf course. I can say that because there are so many there that stalkers won't get me! :D

Any ideas on an United Methodist Church close to that area? Skoorb and I are not religious by any means, but we thought that would be a good way to meet people!

I know for a fact there's a Methodist church in Riverchase. I'll be going to a wedding there this weekend. That's on the southern end of Hoover off Old Highway 31, not the current Highway 31.

I think there's also a Methodist church out near the Met (the baseball park) off Highway 150. At keast I think it's Methodist. Either that or Presbyterian.

If you are talking about the same church as I think you are, my uncle used to be pastor there. Don't worry there are lots of churces in Hoover. Lots of Southern Baptist, Methodist, Assembly Of God, Church of God, Catholic, Satanist, etc. :)

Crazy English with their 'original' names. We didn't think too much with...

New York (Duke of York)
New Jersey (Isle of Jersey)
Virginia ('Virgin Queen')
Georgia (King George II)
New Hampshire (Hampshire England)
Maryland (Queen Mary)
North Carolina (Charles I of England)
West Virginia ('Virgin Queen')
South Carolina (Charles I)

On another note: A few weeks ago I got a nice slice of Birmingham (England) for a night. Was catching a late coach from Chester down to Oxford, but it had engine troubles so I spent 12 hours in the bus station and surrounding areas. Very.... dirty? I believe it was just that part of town though. Whenever the wind would blow you could see the layers of black dirt/dust twirl above the street before being deposited on the lusterless sidewalk. It reminded me somewhat of parts of St Louis, as well as Baltimore.
