Yup, we are outta here!

We are moving 90 minutes MORE south, if you can believe that....here I am, an Eastern Canadian (Newfoundlander no less) living in the Southern United States. It almost seems kinda funny!

So, tomorrow we are off to Birmingham. Moving is NOT fun and Skoorb gets SUPER A$$ED cranky when it comes to moving boxes and furniture...

We are going to be without internet for almost a full week. How are we going to manage?

Anyone living in Birmingham Alabama? Any ideas on fun places to check out? What about the downtown area? :)

Moving back to Bham within two weeks. Time to get out of Atlanta.

Check out the Southside of Bham if you want. I would have to recommend the area along 280 and areas around Hoover. Those would be the areas to seek for malls, movies and clubs.

They're scared you'll sic your new dog on them. He looks like a killer. ;)

Good luck with the move, guys. Remember B'ham is less than two hours from Hotlanta if you need a change of scenery. :)

I went there to watch the Taladega 500 one year. Not much to the city really. It is tree lined and very pretty. There is a very famous steak house down town that many celebrities and presidents have eaten in. I can't remember the name of it off hand but everyone there knows about it. Excellant steaks, yummmmmmmmm. People are ah....unique. Good luck there.

I was pming Skoorb earlier. Hoover is where my cousin and I are going to rent a house. He works in Riverchase so it would be the best location for him. I would have preferred to stay in Pleasant Grove(where I used to live) but I have issues with Law Enforcement in that area.

BTW, yes we should plan a meet. There is a good many people moving to Bham now!

Welcome to Birmingham! I'm sure you'll like it here. I've been living here all 26 years of my life (minus the years I spent in college) and I love it.

I think Birmingham's motto ought to be, "It's a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit there." In other words, it's not the most exciting town from a tourist standpoint, but just a great city all-around for your day-to-day living. It has all the convienence and services of much larger metropolitan areas without quite as much fuss. Like Millenium's already said, Southside is the place to go if you're looking for clubs and bars. The 280 corridor is the best place for restaurants. And Hoover and Vestavia should have all the shopping and general stuff you could ever possibly need. Downtown is actually shrinking (has been for the last 40 years or so.) Most people are moving outside the main city to the outlying areas so there's not much to see/do there. There's still plenty of major corporations downtown though (it's quietly a big banking city.)

Where in Hoover are you going to be living (without being too specific if you don't want)? A house? An apartment? I grew up in Northern Shelby county (now technically considered part of Hoover), but now I have my own house a bit farther south in Pelham.

Have fun packing. :p I hopefully won't be doing that again any time soon.
