Please. I'm asking how many miles one can expect the average 1995 nissan maxima to go before it needs significant overhaul/relair beyond normal maintenance. Basically, I'm asking how reliable these cars are once they hit high mileages.

Ok then until the timing chain breaks. You won't own it that long. That is of course unless a computer fvcks up or you run it hot.

Well, the reason I ask is because I could get a 1995 max for ~1200 under KBB, only problem is is has 148,000 on it now and I would be using it to commute 400 miles to college a few times a year and various other trips, in addition to around-town use in the summers and at school.

I dunno....$1,200 is lot for a student....or atleast it would have been for me. It's not uncommon for Honda Civics to have around 300K miles. My buddy has a Civic si (I forget the year), at around 300K miles and it still purrs like a kitten. The only thing iffy on it so far is the clutch.

I doubt he is getting one for $1200. More like $2200-$2500

Goober, driving a $500 car with no insurance and no registration is bad, ESPECIALLY since he wants to drive home 400 miles every break.

your automatic transmission might blow out after 100,000+ miles ....
Other than that the car is built like a rock.
Since you said it already has 148,000 miles on it, drive it slow up to 40mph .. if you feel a kick then the auto is going. It could just be the plugs too. If you dont feel anything your car is fine.

Approx how many miles can you put on those things till they start to need significant repair? Specifically a 1995 - 1996. Assume proper maintenance has been done. 200,000?

Maxima are super expensive to repair
