SKOORB / other nissan fanboiz....how long will a maxima run?

My dad has a 95 with over 200000 the only thing hes had to repair besides wear componets, is the computer(water got into the compartment) and a bad chain timing sensor. However currently the check engine light is on and no way to fix it. Also the suppension parts are starting to creak and chatter. At this point the cost to replace the worn suspension parts is more than the car is worth. Also the odometer doesn't work.

Other than that the car is built like a rock.

Since you said it already has 148,000 miles on it, drive it slow up to 40mph .. if you feel a kick then the auto is going. It could just be the plugs too. If you dont feel anything your car is fine.

Oh sh1t, mine is doing this 🙁 What can I do to prevent the tranny from blowing? (2000 Max w/ ~109k)

Ahhh, I found this. interesting, gunna have to give this a go

My friend just got his mom's 96 Maxima with 177K on the clock, it sounds and runs like it's got half the milage it does. My mother has a '00 I30 with 125K on the clock and it runs like new. She also had a '93 J30 before that and she sold it with 180K miles, the only thing that ever went wrong with that car was the fuel pump.

 to Nissan V6 cars (no I'm not a Fanboi)

I've got 122k on my '97 I30. I've only had it since 108k, but I've only had to do maintenance stuff. There are many guys on Maxima.org with over 200k miles. Tons and tons over 150k. The auto trans and engine and really great. The manual transmissions have differential problems. 4th gen Maximas and I30s (95-99) are built very well and you can find nice ones anywhere from $2,000 - $10000.

My old Ford was on the road for 25 years, so any Japanese import ought to make it for, oh... 250 years or so, based on the info gleaned from this forum.

My 95 Max SE 5 speed with over 225K miles was running great. I did replace the clutch at about 180K and front rotors at 175K.

I had the car from 90 miles on and drove it like I stole it and it never let me down. I would have kept it but donated it due to tax changes with donations.

Keep in mind that the Maxima automatic has a hard shift from 1st to 2nd, and that is not a sign of failing tranny. I had my car for 70K miles, and it's been doing that all the time. You can actually get a VB mod that will make the kick even rougher, but it'll make the shifting faster. In fact, the kick is actually a good thing, because it means the car tranny isn't slipping to smooth out the shifts. If you are really concerned, I would put an automatic tranny cooler in series with the stock cooler as extra insurance.

Don't worry It's not a sign of tranny about to fail.
It's normal for that tranny to have a rough 1-2 shift.
A good cheap thing to do to reduce the chance of auto tranny failing is installing an auto tranny cooler.

It shouldn't fail anyways, but if this $30 mod reduces the risk of $3000 tranny rebuild by just 1% then it has paid for itself.

I'm bolido2000 on the org 🙂
Anyways...my cousin's car has 200K miles and still going. The only thing that went bad are the brakes I think (dunno what...he said he spent 1K fixing them). All the rest pretty regular maintenence stuff. He is an automatic

I am supertool there too, but I had some problems with the account, so it doesn't work, and I bought a VB mod from a local member here who did manual tranny conversion, then sold it after a couple years. Want to keep the car stock now aside from RSB and FSTB in case I decide to trade it in 😉

i've heard of the vq running into the 170k range. im sure its possible it would run , i still see 89 maximas on the road sometimes, though tthat was an inline 6

Depends on how it has been driven also. Has it been thrashed or was it driven by a little old lady from Pasadena?

They are reliable cars though. Should go to 200k.
