LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif. - Haley Joel Osment was hospitalized early Thursday after he apparently lost control of his car while heading to his Los Angeles area home, authorities said.

Osment, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as a boy who could see dead people in "The Sixth Sense," was driving a 1995 Saturn about 1 a.m. when the car collided with a brick pillar and flipped, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Greg Sisneros.

The 18-year-old actor was awake and talking following the crash, Sisneros said. He had been alone in the car and was taken to Huntington Hospital in nearby Pasadena.

Sisneros had no information on his condition, and an emergency-room receptionist said no one under that name was at the hospital.

Osment is set to appear in the upcoming "Home of the Giants." In the film, he plays a high school journalist covering a basketball team as it heads toward the state championship.

La Canada Flintridge, a suburb of Los Angeles, is about 14 miles northeast of downtown.

😕

He was drunk, so he decided to get a 95 saturn and drive it?

There was a list floating around that showed the cars driven by the richest people in the world. You would be surprised.

Brilliant!

(a) He just happens to really like that Saturn
(b) By "Hollywood accounting", none of the films he's been in have actually turned a profit yet

Maybe his parents took and spent all of his money.

doesn't matter if they were profittable or not, he still got his $ from whatever contract he signed before filiming the movie (atleast that's how I thought movie actors were paid 😛).

i always assume all of the money in the movie's budget went to everything that is used to create the movie, which included actors. And the actual money made from the movie goes to the person/people/company who was in charge of everything.

is that how it works?

Rich people don't need to drive a flashy car to try and appear better than you, they ARE better than you, even if you have a flashier car than them.
Also, sometimes rich people get rich by being sensible with money, and doing things like buying a 95 Saturn instead of spending $50k on a car that doesn't do anything more and getting themselves into debt.

first thing that occurred to me as well when i read it on cnn
95 saturn? this kid can probably buy a Hummer with the money he made simply off of providing the voice for Kingdom Hearts.

not saying you should drive flashy sports car, but when you're a famous child actor, at least get a 2005 saturn?

Examples of his earning on three of his first roles:

Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001) $2,000,000
Pay It Forward (2000) $1,000,000
The Sixth Sense (1999) $150,000

And he has worked a lot more than you think:

Can't think of why a gazillionaire actor drives a 11 year old used car? Lots of wealthy people drive understated vehicles... Link Link Link

These quotes may explain it:

"I try not to let the fame part of it be a factor in everyday life. Because when it comes down to it, the only thing that's important to me that has to do with the fame is just the work on the set and the acting part of it. And the result of that acting is - as you say, can be fame, but I try not to concentrate on that too much because that's not the most important thing about this business for me. It's about the work. And I think if I continue to focus on that, I hope that my career will be able to continue as well as it has been going so far."

"I try to keep away from being big headed. That's what causes people to lose the acting thing. They start being commercial, and then they stink for the rest of their life. But there are several respected adult actors who were child actors that started very young. I'm going to try and model myself after Kurt Russell and Jodie Foster. Just keep learning from the role and not just go for the money".

With all it costs to live in LA maybe that is all he can afford. $100K here where I live is worth $100 there in LA in terms of taxes, food, rent, homes, cars, insurance, gas, etc......

So according to this publication, "Forest Gump" hasn't made a profit yet? I find that hard to believe.

The kid is worth millions. He's doing fine.

He intentionally lives low key and has a stable family with a history of acting and performing.
