Well really its been longer than that but I had to make a statement.

I have 1500 dollars to spend on a complete computer.

I'm hoping to get a 7800GT for a video card
1gig ram
I'm looking for a dual core CPU
I don't plan on OCing the CPU until the warranty is off and even then I don't think I will much if at all.

Should I get a Opteron or a X2 ???? And should I wait or will the prices of these dual cores just keep going up towards Christmas....lol yes I know you aren't God but still.

Any suggestions?

(eVGA) 7800GT
Epox or DFI (or something cheaper since no oc)
3800X2
2x1GB Value RAM (since no oc)
Seasonic 500w
Dell 2005FPW (for movies), or Samsung SyncMaster 970P (for gaming).

gg.

Buy an X2 3800 because this is like the nth post you've make about this, so my guess is you'll act too slow to even have a chance at the rapidly dissappearing Opterons.

Yes I know it is true ribbon:( I'm very sorry about having to post yet again. But it runs in our family. We can't make decisions>_< well at least when it comes to simple things like this.

If I were to buy the CPU tomorrow would you suggest the X2 still?

Or just put the cash in a money market fund till you decide what to get, prolly have enough for a Cray by then....

Whatever has happened, has happened. Don't live in the past. Don't keep thinking whether to buy or not. U'll most prolly end up not buying or wait for a new tech to arrive and keep waiting. Get the following NOW :

X2 3800+ - $323

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562

ASUS A8N-E ( Decent Overclocker but rock solid at stock ) - $ 110

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530

eVGA 7800GT - $299 OR $319

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130256

OR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130249

OCZ 2*1GB Platinum Memory - $244

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227210

OR

OCZ 2*512 Platinum - $128

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146896

Viewsonic 17" VX724 - $280

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116359

TOTAL - $1276 ( With the $319 eVGA and 2*1GB OCZ )

OR

TOTAL - $1140 ( With the $299 eVGA and 2*512 OCZ )

Sounds like you woulda been better off buying AMD stock than a new computer. As many have said, it is better to put money into investments than to put it into liabilities.

Alright. Remember to buy VALUE RAM, not Performance RAM because you are not overclocking.

I would go with:

3800 X2

7800GT

2x1 GB Value

Seasonic S12 500W

MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum
or a cheap but reliable Nforce4 Ultra board if you don't plan on going SLI in the future.

200GB or 300GB 7200.8 SATA
or a RAPTOR and a really cheap 100gb.

I also recommend SyncMaster? 740B - 17" monitor but you should try to find a 2005fpw with coupons.

I say take your time. It's been at least a year since I began buying parts for a new machine, and I still need a video card and hard drives.

i just spent about $1100 on a complete system, so if you need a monitor you could still build an nice system + a 300-400$ monitor.

i got:
opty 148
UT DFI SLI-DR
2gb G.Skill DDR500
SG 250gb hdd
OCZ Powerstream 520
evga 7800gt
BenQ DVD+/-rw

I guess since I'm not going to be OCing I'll just get some value ram like you all said ... saying that though do you think I should buy this ram though or not then...: Not this one?

What is good value ram now days?

I've been Comparing alot of cases, do you have any suggestions:/ ???

Anyone have any comment on the ram or the cases..?

Also so I should go with the 3800 X2? Seeing that the Opterons are getting way more expensive....

i think most people like the antec p180. Can get it for about 130$ shipped from amazon now which is a pretty good deal (free shipping). Other than that it will depend on how much you are willing to drop on the case. For ram, i have been reading alot about success with G.Skill so thats what i went with.

I actually just bought all my components this week and will build this weekend, but did my homework on everything and the G.Skill seemed to be a great deal (2gigs ddr500 for ~$200). Im using my "old" case which is actually a Cooler Master Cav. 3 which is pretty nice for 60$. Its nice and solid, looks great, the front is aluminum unlike most plastic ones, has a perfectly sized window, and 120mm exhaust fan which i chose for noise levels.

The OCZ ram isn't really needed in your case since you're not planning on OCing. Like stated above, Value ram is your best bet. As far as building your comp, JUST DO IT!!!! if not satisfied later on, sell and upgrade :)

RAM- That's your best choice for the money(non-OCing).

MOBO- The Epox. Best NF4 Ultra board for the money right now, (the Chaintech just recently jumped in price).

To really OC, you should spend about $40-50 on better RAM. And get a 7800 GT CO SE (Copper Heatsink). But you can OC with Value Ram too.
