Check newegg pics to see if it comes with fans already.

You'll be able to tell how many and of what size you need from the pics and specs too.

Zebo says his 4200+ works fine with his AN8U. Don't know why you're getting lockups.

Like i said, the board is picky with RAM. Get some Samsung UCCC.

USB problem on NF4 chipset is a well-known fact.

I've posted about a dozen times in that long thread, "as you may noticed alread." :p The majority of the reported BSOD/lockups happen when using USB 2.0 devices.

Some people have "solved" their problems either by using a PCI USB 2.0 card or by disabling 2.0 support in BIOS.

I dont' think so. Value ram is great for stock speeds (very little difference between it and faster ram). Even when overclocking, just use a divider and you're fine. Very little performance hit and much money saved.

So Abit is a good board to pick if I get that ram... but isn't that ram basicly OCing ram?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on the fans? I posted specs of the case if you didn't notice.

Yeah, also in ABIT USA Forum someone claimed to have fixed the problem by disabling USB 2.0 in BIOS, only USB 1.1 enable. But someone reported that even if onboard USB is completely disabled, the problem continues. I suspect that lockups with X2 is deeply related to NF4 USB problem. But I don't care any longer. I gave up NF4!

If you are interested, look at these threads at ABIT USA Forums:

AN8, About to give up!!!

Semi-convinced - nForce4 chipset problem - LONG

Not every AN8 Ultra has the lockup problem, but some have. In my case both two have! But both (and AX8) are completely stable with Venice, and with Corsair Value Select RAM at 2.63GHz, DDR333 (=219MHz) and 1T. I decided to return both and wait for AT8. If I run Venice, AX8 is enough (it's been running half a year).

Sorry, harobikes333. The topic is off your subject.

Edited

Some of the tremendous number of threads on AN8-USB fiasco from ABIT USA Forums:

USB Issue (includes my post about MSI, DFI, Foxconn)

AN8 Ultra Hangs at Post Code 50

USB's on Amd X2 CPUs

nForce 4 USB issues

Yes More USB Problems

No full shut down or restart

Just for everybody's information. (Partial) solution exists: disable onboard USB and use a PCI USB controller card instead!

Still need these questions answered:

How many fans will I need for my rig if the case comes with one 80mm and one 120mm fans. Also what kind of fans do you sugget?

Mobo=>_< wow I just don't know how to decide. Also the issues with dual cores and alot of those boards is making me not know what to get...:

Use the fans that comes with the case to begin with.

Get Value RAM.

The Abit boards should be fine.

Right now the MSI GeForce 6150 board (MSI K8NGM2-FID) with X2 3800+ is running perfectly for three days. It is a surprisingly good board. It comes with VGA/DVI connector, 4 SATAII, 8 USB2.0, 2 IEEE 1394, Gb LAN, HD Audio Codec, HDTV out, all in a little beautiful mATX board at $85. The system is prime stable at 2.38GHz. It can be used for not only HTPC but also general-purpose, office, productive, server or gaming machine. It is not for hardcore overclockers, though. Take a look at this thread:

NV GeForce 6150 Board Shootout.

Do NOT buy a 7800GT...
the 7900GTs are coming out SOON and outperform the 7800GTXs, and they're only ~299.

Also, X2s are better if you aren't OCing (3800+ vs. the 165..) and if you are, I'd still say go with the X2)

I don't think you should build a new computer. No matter what you get, you won't be happy with it. You'll spend the next two years second guessing yourself and wishing you'd waited just a few weeks longer. Just don't do it.

Though I'm starting to agree with Greenman.
