Monday? I thought that sort of thing would need to be done immediately to regain usage.

I didn't cut through the bone. Only the flesh of everything else. The tip of the finger is mostly skin and fat past that last knuckle. The knife bounced of the bone and took just about everything else with it though. But all the blood had drained out of the part that came off so there are going to do a skin graft on monday.

When you said you cut off your finger at the end knuckle I thought you meant you cut off your distal phalanx on your right index finger.
(Like you cut through the joint between your distal and intermediate phalanx)

Did you "just" cut the tip of your finger off?

No, didn't cut off the whole knuckle. The cut started just behind the knuckle and slid along the bone taking off the bottom and left part completely. Basically the entire bottom pad, left side, and half of the nail on top is gone. It starts about 2 or 3 millimeters behind the knuckle. It's a bit hard to describe but basically if any more was removed I would just have a bone digit sticking out. It wasn't pretty and it bled badly.

Would've been hilarious if the cat ate your finger and you had to cut him open to get it back.

My friend ripped the top of his finger off in a bike chain, it was all black and dirty and they reattached it no problem.

Also, rep++ for posting on ATOT from ER.

man your lucky you cut it all the way through or you would be bleeding tons more.

So they have your finger on ice or something? I dont get why they dont attach it right away.

This...and no pics of exposed wound with other half of finger sitting an inch or so away from where it is supposed to be?

I think your cat just wanted some finger food.

I have a nice scar on the back of my hand from when i was working on my car and the wrench broke loose and my hand hit a bracket and split the back of my hand. I got lucky that it didn't cut the tendons, which I could watch move. It was actually pretty cool.

No, a semi-colon isn't proper in that usage. A comma would have been correct.

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/marks/semicolon.htm

Use a semicolon [ ; ]

* to help sort out a monster list:
There were citizens from Bangor, Maine; Hartford, Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; and Newport, Rhode Island.
OR
We had four professors on our committee: Peter Wursthorn, Professor of Mathematics; Ronald Pepin, Professor of English; Cynthia Greenblatt, Professor of Education; and Nada Light, Professor of Nursing.

* to separate closely related independent clauses:
My grandmother seldom goes to bed this early; she's afraid she'll miss out on something.

The semicolon allows the writer to imply a relationship between nicely balanced ideas without actually stating that relationship. (Instead of saying because my grandmother is afraid she'll miss out on something, we have implied the because. Thus the reader is involved in the development of an idea—a clever, subliminal way of engaging the reader's attention.)

It is rare, but certainly possible, that you will want a semicolon to separate two independent clauses even when those two independent clauses are connected by a coordinating conjunction. This is especially true when the independent clauses are complex or lengthy and when there are commas within those independent clauses. You might consider breaking those two independent clauses into separate sentences when this happens.

For a semi-colon to be correct, both parts of the sentence so joined should be complete sentences, capable of standing on their own.

:p

Since the OP has posted pics...I can say that it's not as funny as originally thought...well, not quite as funny anyway. (gotta hurt like a motherfucker!)

It's all coming back to me now like the 80's. :p I know this I swear! When I'm tired my mind loses me. o_O

When I was about 5 or 6, my brother and I were playing in the fitness dept of Montgomery Ward. I remember pedaling one of the exercise bikes with my hand and hearing my mom call me. Next thing I know my middle and pointer finger get caught in the machine (were the chain goes around the pedals).

I ended up cutting off the tip of my middle finger thru the bone as well as the tip of my pointer however not thru the bone. To this day I don't have complete feeling in my middle finger, the nail does not grow back properly, plus it's barely shorter than my ring finger :(

Sleeping last night was a bitch. Had to do it in my recliner so I could lay a pillow on my chest to rest my hand on to keep it raised above me comfortably. Also the recliner prevented me from rolling around and hurting myself. It works, just not the most comfortable way to sleep all night even without the pain I was having.

Sorry to hear you had a rough night man. I hope everything gets straightened out well with the surgery. You sound like your handling it will. I honestly don't think I could look down at the bandages without freaking out. The idea of separating a digit on my body sounds terrifying!

Dear god. If that happened to me that cat would be headed straight for the deep-frier.
