No, a semi-colon isn't proper in that usage. A comma would have been correct.

The semicolon allows the writer to imply a relationship between nicely balanced ideas without actually stating that relationship. (Instead of saying because my grandmother is afraid she'll miss out on something, we have implied the because. Thus the reader is involved in the development of an idea—a clever, subliminal way of engaging the reader's attention.)

It is rare, but certainly possible, that you will want a semicolon to separate two independent clauses even when those two independent clauses are connected by a coordinating conjunction. This is especially true when the independent clauses are complex or lengthy and when there are commas within those independent clauses. You might consider breaking those two independent clauses into separate sentences when this happens.


For a semi-colon to be correct, both parts of the sentence so joined should be complete sentences, capable of standing on their own.

From what I heard (glad I didn't experience it) you don't really "feel" it until the adrenaline wears off. Hope they give you plenty of painkillers when it does wear off.

Curious, what are you going to do about the cat? Lock it in a room when using sharp knives?

Almost glad that mom only ever allowed us to use serated steak knives that couldn't cut anything unless you really want to. Honestly, I can run them across my hand, lightly, with no fear of a scratch.

I once was cutting a coconut in half (a huge one) with a surgical steel insanely sharp dive knife.. (stupid.. I know.. I was like 14 or so) It was on a dock. All of a sudden, a pelican landed right behind me and clapped its beak. It probby wanted food..

It startled the freaking crap out of me and I ripped the dive knife out of the coconut and pulled the serrated edge across my hand.. Still have a 1" scar.. it cut about 1'4" deep.. gross.. Worst I've ever been cut.

But you.. you cut your own finger off.. craziness..

Monday morning at 8am.


I've had a friend here today helping me out and I've been napping most of the day on pain meds.

Here are the knives I own.

The one I was using was the 5th one up from the bottom I think. Very sharp knives. It was such a clean cut that it looked exactly like a cross-section like for a microscope or the image from an MRI.

It has definitely not been a fun day for me.
 
man your lucky you cut it all the way through or you would be bleeding tons more.

So they have your finger on ice or something? I dont get why they dont attach it right away.
