hey NFS4, I do not know whether you used it prior to the 9700 (i did not), but doesnt AA and AF make games seem so much different?

I know for me it was a major shock...games look so "ugly" now without AA/AF to me.

AA/AF are like god sends...don't know how I lived w/o them

I scored the 13070 with default settings and no tweaks. I haven't even overclocked the Radeon yet. I'll try that when I get back from Baltimore on Sunday.

Well, I just picked some random numbers and overclocked it to 344/324. Everything is going fine so far. Been playing BF1942 for the past few hours with no probs with 4x FSAA Quality and 8x Aniso Quality. I'll bump it up some more later 😀

The 8X performance Ansio looks just about as good as the quality, only takes much less of a hit in your framerate. If you are getting acceptable framerates with 8X quality, try out 16X performance and see what you think.

Performance looks just as good in most games, but in some cases you can really see the mip-map lines because it only uses bilinear filtering. (I think it's the case with BF1942)

Personally, I can't see a difference over 4X AF, so I use Quality because Trilinear filtering looks a lot better in racing games.

how many marks do you get with that speed?

I ran with the same settings under Return to Castle Wolfenstein on my new sapphire 9700 (not pro). With Wolf maxed in detail and what not at 1280x1024 I got 85 fps. I'll be turning OFF vsync to see how high that can go.

It is always nice when your new board crushes your old one. (4200)

Hehe yeah 🙂 I'm also running at 1280x1024. I just wish my 18" LCD supported a higher resolution...1600x1200 would be nice.

my gf4 4400 is good enough for now...

That's what I said about my Ti4200 until I tried to play with super high FSAA and Aniso settings in BF1942.

excuse my lame question, but what are you using to see the clock on your radeon? is there something more simple than powerstrip?

RadClocker

In regards to the comment above about DAOC bringing down the 9700, I play DAOC at 1600X1200, and even that can't bring the 9700 to it's knees. The 9700 at 1600X1200 with 4XAA and 8X AF is still faster responding than a ti4600 at 1280X1024 with no AA or AF.

I am driving them with an AMD 2700+ OC'd to 3000+ speeds as well.

Even BF1942 which is based on old Quake 3 engine can bring down some pretty fast rigs with a 9700 PRO to its nees. Anything above 1028x768x32bit max FSAA/AA settings, the game starts to be come very unplayable on my rig. THis is with my card at 340/295.
